Navis Installs Oracle Pillar Axiom 600 Over EMC

Replacing NetApp

Navis,
LLC,

part of
Cargotec Corporation, in technology for managing the movement of cargo through
terminals, has replaced its NetApp storage solutions with Oracle Corp’s.

SPARCS N4
terminal OS.

Moving to
virtualize these environments to meet the demands of the business,
Navis sought a performant, scalable tiered storage
solution to support application development and
database access.

Following an
evaluation, Navis selected Pillar Axiom over EMC, identifying its QoS capability and
management capabilities as key factors in its decision.

The Pillar Axiom 600 patented QoS
architecture provides predictable performance and
consolidation capabilities that have helped Navis
meet increasing demands.

By increasing the replication and
multi-system management features of the Axiom 600, Navis  can maintain
performance of its virtual machines, regardless of the types of
environments it provisions.

Adding the Axiom 600 to Navis’ existing Oracle footprint spanning Oracle
Fusion
Middleware,
Oracle
Database,
Oracle
VM,
and Oracle’s x86
servers,
the company is leveraging the benefits of Oracle’s hardware and
software  together to
serve the needs of its customers.

Navis is using the combination of
Oracle’s Sun
Storage
Archive
Manager

(SAM) software and Axiom 600
along with StorageTek
tape solutions to automate the management of its data, active to
archive, at a lower cost than with
disk-only environments.

and Oracle’s StorageTek

are used to build out a DR solution. While the company evaluated
other solutions, Navis chose Oracle’s tape drives for their performance with  better ROI.

Navis plans to deploy an other Axiom 600
in its Chennai, India data center, leveraging the Axiom MaxRep
capabilities to replicate between Chennai and its data center in
Oakland, CA

"Navis was in the midst
of transitioning to a virtualized environment and we needed a storage
solution that would provide the performance and flexibility to meet
the rapidly changing demands of our business and our customers
."
said Stephen Schleiger, manager of Systems Engineering, Navis. "It
was clear from the beginning that Oracle’s Pillar Axiom Storage
Systems, with its QoS capabilities, would be able to provide the
performance, scalability and manageability we need for the long term,
and at much lower cost.
