Transcend Releases eMMC NAND Flash Solution
For portable embedded applications, at 4GB, 8GB and 16GB
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 20, 2012 at 3:04 pmTranscend Information, Inc. announced its eMMC embedded MLC NAND flash solution.
Adhering to eMMC specification version 4.41, Transcend eMMC architecture consists of the MMC (multimedia card) interface, the flash memory, and the flash memory controller, which together allows manufacturers to design, qualify, and produce devices quicker and easier.
By integrating the controller into the flash memory package, eMMC streamlines the development of new products that comply with a set of industry-standard specifications for memory management. Transcend’s eMMC solution provides designers with flexibility with support for three data transfer bus widths: 1bit (default), 4bit, 8bit, and interface voltage of either 1.8V or 3.3V. Consequently, manufacturers can benefit from a more efficient design process, lower costs, and reduced time-to-market for end products.
Equipped with 21nm toggle-mode double data rate (DDR) NAND, Transcend eMMC meets the demands of mobile devices, including smartphones, eBook readers, navigation systems, digital cameras, etc. In addition to fast random access and sequential performance, the memory also features TRIM, Secure Erase, and built-in ECC for long-term reliable data transfer. Its High Priority Interrupt (HPI) mechanism can suspend lower priority operations to promptly take care of more important requests, without compromising data integrity or overall system responsiveness.
Transcend’s eMMC solution offers additional advantages for embedded memory applications. Enhanced Reliable Write ensures data will remain intact in case of sudden power loss during the write operation, while Enhanced Write Protection provides two levels of write protection to prevent unintentionally erasing or writing. Auto Power Saving Mode enables the memory to enter a sleep state after a brief period of inactivity, helping to reduce power consumption.
For applications requiring performance storage with low power consumption and a small footprint, this eMMC package is available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB capacities and an alternative to traditional flash memory.
