Huawei Brings Out Four Unified Storage Devices
OceanStor T with up to 1,152 drives or 2.3PB raw capacity
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 17, 2012 at 3:22 pmHuawei Technologies Co., Ltd. announced four unified storage products (OceanStor T series) and four high-end servers (Tecal series) for enterprises.
Under the theme Simplify your business, accelerate your success, the OceanStor T unified storage series will provide enterprise businesses with intelligence and simplicity in the cloud era, while the Tecal high-end servers will deliver performance and reliability.
With 11-year R&D history in IT field, Huawei provides a range of servers, storage products, cloud-computing and data center solutions. Furthermore, Huawei has formed the structure with network as the basis, computing and storage as the core force, security as the safeguard and application as orientation.
OceanStor T series
It delivers high-performance levels in an all-in-one solution that unifies the file-level data, block-level data, storage protocols, and the interface management, while leveraging improvement mechanisms to maximize customers’ ROI.
The series contains four product models: OceanStor S2600T, OceanStor S5500T, OceanStor S5600T, and OceanStor S5800T for a scope of applications, including database OLTP/OLAP, HPC, digital media, Internet commerce, central storage, backup, DR, and data migration.
"Huawei constantly increases its investment in storage intelligence, and enables its storage products to achieve simplified management and low TCO," said Kim Wang, analyst from ESG-Sino. "Huawei storage products can meet the changing performance requirements of diversified applications."
A T series storage system can provide PB-level storage capacity for various types of service data, while maintaining a simplified IT architecture. This reduces management complexity and TCO.
The OceanStor T series also incorporates self-developed Smart series software (SmartMotion, SmartTier, SmartCache, SmartThin, and SmartQoS), which achieves the intelligent functions of: global data relocation, dynamic storage tiering, service acceleration, data thin provisioning and service quality control.
"Cloud computing is an inevitable trend in the storage industry, and therefore a key focus of Huawei’s. Huawei storage aims to provide a stable, efficient, and scalable ‘unified storage cloud engine’ solution," said Fan Ruiqi, president of Huawei Storage Product Line. "OceanStor T series is based on the storage virtualization of data centers, offers diversified cloud engines for different types of data, and meets the requirement of storage resource sharing. The complex storage processing mechanisms are transparent to customers, which facilitates customers’ storage system management."
Tecal Series extended with 4- and 8-socket servers
After a series of Tecal V2 Servers launched in March 2012, Huawei continues to deploy high-end servers with performance for the enterprise market. The 4-socket rack server, H2485 V2, 4-socket blade server, BH640 V2, (based on Intel E5-4600) and the 4-socket and 8-socket top-end servers RH5885 V2 (based on E7-4800 and E7-8800) are concurrently launched with the fourth generation PCIe SSD card ES3000. The extensive Tecal series of servers are regarded for their performance, reliability and various optimization algorithms to help application speed and efficiency.
RH2485 V2 provides features and functions that are integrated into the manageable two U space. The RH2485V2’s extensibility, performance, and energy efficiency holds five world records in the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation test. BH640 V2 supports Huawei E6000H shelves and runs four CPUs, providing high computing density (5 processors per U) in the blade field. RH5885 V2 offers the best performance among Huawei X86 servers and implements technology with 35 fault-tolerant features to ensure reliability for customers’ applications.
Huawei has been engaged in the server business for a decade and has accumulated massive technical expertise and R&D strength in reliability, energy efficiency and performance. Regarding reliability, Huawei possesses technologies such as passive backplanes, non-stacking layout, support for the 40ºC ambient temperature, single-node failure protection, memory image, fault-tolerant frameworks, PCIe hot plugging, SAS hot plugging, and fault isolation. For energy saving, Huawei possesses technologies such as efficiency power supply, power limitation, and dynamic power consumption management.
"Among our many key technologies, Tecal servers stand out for powerful performance, high reliability and efficient energy-saving," said Qiu Long, GM of Huawei Servers. "Guided by customer-centric orientation, we will continue to provide competitive servers and application acceleration solutions, making IT infrastructure more convenient and energy efficient."
