Battery Trays for IBM System x
Supporting ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA controller
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 6, 2012 at 2:56 pmNew battery trays for the x3850 X5, x3950 X5, and x3690 X5 systems from IBM Corp. enable these systems to support the ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA Controller for System x.
Features of the ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA Controller:
- Offers an enterprise RAID solution for internal storage.
- Comes with flash-backed cache offload, enabling to extended-life cached data protection in storage subsystem in the event of an unexpected power outage.
- Uses 1GB of flash-backed cache with super-capacitor technology, eliminating the need for consumable batteries.
- Supports RAID-6 and- 60, and self-encrypting drives as a standard feature. The purchase of additional feature keys is not required.
Because the battery trays that normally ship with these systems do not fit with the power module of the ServeRAID M5016 controller, they are replaced with the battery trays in this new kit. One battery tray is for x3850 X5 and x3950 X5 systems and the other battery tray is for x3690 systems.
The ServeRAID M5016 Battery Tray includes two trays for supporting the power module for the ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA Controller for System x. One tray is for the System x3850 X5 and x3950 X5 systems, and the other is for System x3690 X5 systems. Each tray can support two power modules, so two M5016 ServeRAID adapters can be supported with each tray in each system. System x3850 X5 and x3950 X5 systems can support one tray per system. x3690 X5 systems can support up to two trays per system. These trays replace the existing tray or trays for the supported systems when using the ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA Controller.
Also new is support for the ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA Controller for System x (option part number 90Y4304) the x3850 X5, x3950 X5, and x3690 X5 systems.
Finally, support is added for 16GB (1x16GB, 2Rx4, 1.35V) PC3L-10600 CL9 ECC DDR3 1333 MHz LP RDIMM (option part number 49Y1564) for the x3850 X5, x3950 X5 (machine type 7143 systems only), and x3690 X5 (machine type 7147 systems only) systems. This support includes the MAX5 V2 memory expansion option. With this option, these systems now provide both dual rank and quad rank DIMM choices. These options allow to select the memory performance attributes that meet workload requirements.
