IBM Corp.‘s System Storage ProtecTIER Entry Edition V3.2 software introduces support for the CIFS backup interface.

It supports replication between a maximum of eight ProtecTIER CIFS systems. Any one is limited to a maximum of three target systems within the replication grid per replication policy.

ProtecTIER V3.2 continues support for the Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage API announced with ProtecTIER V2.5, and for the VTL interface that has been the foundation of the ProtecTIER offerings. Supported replication grid configurations for ProtecTIER OST and ProtecTIER VTL systems are unchanged with ProtecTIER V3.2.

Other enhancements included in V3.2 are designed to provide SNMP alerting improvements and enhancements to the security interface for the ProtecTIER Manager GUI. When combined with the TS7620 ProtecTIER Express Model SM2 appliance, V3.2 delivers twice the storage capacity of the TS7610 Model SM1.

System Storage ProtecTIER Entry Edition V3.2 is the follow-on to V3.1.

Key prerequisites
ProtecTIER Entry Edition requires System Storage TS7610 Deduplication Express or System Storage TS7620 Deduplication Express appliance hardware. Only backup data passed to ProtecTIER from NetBackup is eligible to utilize the optional OpenStorage interface. The ProtecTIER CIFS interface requires the TS7620 Deduplication Express appliance.
