FileTek Releases StorHouse/Trusted Edge

Storage analysis and policy-driven data migration platform

FileTek, Inc., provider of large-scale data management, storage virtualization, and active archive solutions, announced the availability of StorHouse/Trusted Edge intelligent content analysis and migration management software for moving less active forever-read data from primary storage to a more cost-effective StorHouse data management system.

StorHouse/Trusted Edge supports a graphical interface for analyzing existing primary storage allocations and asset distribution prior to migration and a policy creation/execution engine for moving, linking, verifying, and reporting on migrated content. With the addition of StorHouse/Trusted Edge, StorHouse becomes a solution that provides front-end content analysis, policy-driven data migration, and automated storage management capabilities.

StorHouse/Trusted Edge takes the guess work out of defining an efficient data migration strategy. The software’s analysis features enable administrators to evaluate existing primary storage locations and access patterns according to numerous criteria and then create/execute automated migration, backup, replication, reporting, and synchronization polices that promote data availability, security, and cost-effective post-migration operation, including reclaiming expensive primary storage and reducing the amount of operational data requiring backup.

With StorHouse/Trusted Edge, administrators can create and schedule numerous job types, including copy, migrate, source and destination directory synchronization, MD5 and SH1 hash verification, statistical analysis, and file/folder/stale link deletes.

They also can define extensive include/exclude filters to further pinpoint the exact data to be migrated, import/export job policies, and generate six detailed reports such as individual job activity, source/destination hash verifications, and job summarization.

As part of this announcement, FileTek is offering a free download of the StorHouse/Trusted Edge analysis component to enable users to explore the content characteristics of their current storage environment and then leverage their research to determine the specific cost savings that StorHouse can provide. The download includes a completed job run and its associated statistics report to gain experience with the Trusted Edge reporting capabilities. In addition, the download is primed with one job definition configured to gather statistics against the local C:drive. You can use this preloaded job as a template that can be edited to create new analytical queries so that you are up and running right away.

"Because data is growing at exponential rates, all organizations will ultimately spend money this year to acquire more storage. While simply adding more disk was once the perceived ‘no hassle’ approach to storage growth, the sheer volume of data to be retained makes it operationally and fiscally challenging to continue down this path," commented Gary Szukalski, president of FileTek. "There are just too many risks, including reduced backup windows, excessive recovery times, facility limitations and overhead such as electricity/cooling, and the high cost per terabyte of primary storage. All these factors make adding more disk an antiquated storage management approach. To simplify storage strategies for less active, forever-read data, StorHouse/Trusted Edge helps customers easily identify and automatically migrate the specific content that belongs on StorHouse rather than primary storage and then reclaim as much as 70-90% of primary storage after migration for ‘in-process’ operations. The bottom line is that customers who use StorHouse achieve an ROI though immediate cost avoidance and on-going reduced operational expenditures with payback measured in months. To help prove our point, we are offering a free download of the StorHouse/Trusted Edge analysis component to help organizations determine their data usage profile firsthand and then quickly determine the actual savings that can be gained from a StorHouse deployment. We welcome everyone to visit our website and download the free software copy."

About StorHouse
StorHouse is a hardware-independent, multi-functional software platform that automatically stores, validates, retrieves, backups, archives, and manages terabytes to zettabytes of file-based and relational information on a single, easy-to-access system. Because StorHouse abstracts hardware, users see a single unified global namespace rather than specific devices types so that SSD, JBOD, RAID, MAID, and tape all look like one unlimited storage pool. In addition, by storing data in native rather than proprietary file format, StorHouse eliminates the need for formal restore procedures. Instead, users have self-service access to StorHouse-managed data at any time without IT intervention. No application interfaces or changes to existing applications are required.
