This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 11, 2012 at 3:09 pmA recent Vendor Landscape report on Disk Backup, published by Info-Tech Research Group, Inc., ranked EMC (Data Domain), Quantum, and ExaGrid as market Champions.
The market for backup storage is in flux, as the switch from tape to disk-based backup has attracted a number of viable new players, in addition to inspiring several notable acquisitions.
"With 62% of those investing in a new backup architecture focusing on disk-to-disk backup, it’s no surprise that heavyweight vendors Dell, HP and EMC have made strategic acquisitions into the market," said John Sloan, lead research analyst for Info-Tech Research Group. "EMC is a familiar player that is expanding its capabilities with new acquisitions. While their entry seems promising, HP and Dell are still lagging behind the competition, and will have some catch-up to do in terms of advanced features if they truly want to compete in this market."
The report ranks EMC in the Champion category. EMC’s strategic acquisition of Data Domain increased their market share to more than 60%. While the price tag for their solution may seem high, they provide all the bells and whistles. EMC is unmatched in features, usability and vendor strength, and remains an innovator in deduplication.
The report describes Quantum as a viable option for organizations of all sizes and they continue to gain market share as a result of their exceptional management tools. Their robust and user-friendly solution offers many advanced features at a compelling price point and earns them a position in the Champion quadrant. Quantum recently acquired Pancetera Software to improve its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
ExaGrid, the youngest company in the Vendor Landscape report, also earned the title of Champion as a result of their solid combination of architecture and business strategy. The scalable and cost effective platform has a strong client base among small to mid-market organizations. ExaGrid has achieved excellent rates of customer satisfaction for maintaining fast backup times, while addressing growing data needs.
