Mosaik Solutions Replaces Aging Tape Backup
With TwinStrata CloudArray and Amazon S3
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 5, 2012 at 3:02 pmTwinStrata, Inc. announced
that Mosaik Solutions, LLC (formerly
American Roamer), a mobile network coverage catalog,
has replaced its aging tape backup infrastructure with a cloud-based solution
built upon the TwinStrata CloudArray storage gateway and Amazon S3 cloud
storage.
The new solution automatically backups 14TB of geospatial data,
employee desktops, virtual machines, and vector graphics files, in real
time, an improvement in data protection.
"We were archiving historical data
to optical and hard disks due to increasing storage costs and backup capability
constraints," said Mosaik Solutions systems administrator, Daniel
Bozeman. "Any data we could store
off-site was generally two to four weeks old. Backup recovery was slow and
required manual tape-juggling."
Mosaik Solutions considered several alternative solutions, including
a tape array system upgrade, a D2D backup appliance and SAN
replication to another SAN offsite, before deciding to pursue the cloud storage
path. The cost of TwinStrata CloudArray was less than half the cost of the
least expensive alternative, and it was the only solution that backed up
automatically, in real time with limitless storage capacity.
CloudArray iSCSI storage gateways make remote storage as fast, safe
and easy to access as local storage. CloudArray virtual or physical appliances
take minutes to configure and integrate public cloud, private cloud and local
or remote storage devices into flexible ‘Cloud SANs’ that provide unlimited
storage, CDP, tapeless offsite backup, instant DR, and
branch office storage consolidation.
It took Mosaik Solutions 40 minutes to download, install, and
configure the CloudArray virtual appliance and use it to
thin-provision a 19TB iSCSI storage volume on Amazon S3 cloud storage.
"Mosaik
Solutions is located on the New Madrid Fault System. With our backups now
automatically replicated offsite in the cloud by TwinStrata CloudArray, we have
protected ourselves against regional and local disasters. Should there be
irreparable damage to our building, we can deploy CloudArray in a co-location
facility or on Amazon EC2 and recover access to our business data in an instant," said Daniel.
