KineticSeed for Initial Backup on Cloud With USB or External Drive
New service from KineticD
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 28, 2012 at 3:12 pmKineticD, known for its cloud backup and data recovery services SMBs, announced KineticSeed, providing SMBs with the ability to backup large amounts of data from a USB or external drive and send it securely to KineticD’s SSAE 16 certified datacenter for protection.
Initially backing up hundreds of gigabytes of data to the cloud can take hours or even days, a daunting prospect for companies contemplating a move to online backup. KineticD is offering a solution with KineticSeed, a new service for KineticCloud Backup customers.
With KineticSeed customers are now able to remotely backup an unlimited number of servers agentlessly via the network to a USB or external drive. Additionally, KineticSeed is encrypted with Blowfish 448 bank-grade encryption, eliminating the risk of data being compromised during shipping. After KineticD receives and uploads the data, only incremental backup blocks will be sent over the Internet, providing customers with clean, fast and easy ongoing backups to the Cloud. The same technology can also be used for data recovery in the event of an emergency or disaster.
Foresight Computers & Networking, Inc., a provider of network, server support and integration services, recently completed an initial install for one of its clients. The install required several hundred gigabytes of data from various sources be backed up to the cloud, including a Windows fileserver, Linux based Samba server and an MS SQL server. Using KineticSeed, Foresight was able to create a seed data set over just a few days. The initial data set was over 600GB, however, after applying the de-duplication and compression features of KineticCloud Backup, the final seed consumed 220GB on disk. To transfer this data via the Internet would have taken several weeks, crippling the business by causing congestion on the live Internet connection.
For a limited time, KineticD is offering this service with no minimum data commitment or data limit and free of charge to its KineticCloud for Server customers and partners.
Tim Beyea, president, Foresight Computers & Networking, Inc., said: "We are excited to partner with KineticD for our cloud-based backup services. As a provider of services to various government and private entities across the Deep South, it is imperative that our clients be prepared for anything. This offering gives us the perfect product for our clients who need to know that their data is safe, secure and accessible from anywhere should the need arise. Due to the architecture of KineticSeed, it is suitable for backups of all sizes and can dovetail into most environments seamlessly."
Jamie Brenzel, CEO, KineticD, said: "We are excited to empower our customers and channel partners with the ability to backup their servers in an efficient, safe and timely manner. When our customers told us they wanted an alternative to ease the pain of the initial backup process, we listened. This new component of KineticCloud Backup for Servers is another example of how we strive to provide our customers with the best cloud backup and recovery experience possible."
