Whamcloud, Inc., a venture-backed company formed from a WW network
of computing storage industry veterans, and Terascala, Inc., in data storage
management, announced a reseller agreement for Lustre.
Under the agreement, Whamcloud will provide Level 3 Lustre support to
Terascala. The term of the agreement commences immediately.
Terascala’s storage appliances
combine the Lustre file system, analysis and optimization
tools, integration and services, and are designed to speed the analysis of big
data sets by large interconnected server installations.
Commercial
organizations are increasingly looking to Terascala solutions to improve their
ability to process pools of big data, which until now, has been limited due to
the throughput abilities of standard file systems.
"Lustre has proven to be
the fastest parallel file system available today. At Terascala, we’re seeing
huge interest in fully supported, packaged Lustre solutions from both
traditional HPC customers and commercial organizations that need the
performance but lack the technical resources to build and manage their own
solutions," said Steve Butler, CEO at Terascala. "Our agreement with Whamcloud will enable us
to continue to deliver superior support to new and existing customers."
"Terascala is a well
known brand in the Lustre space, and we’re excited to be working together.
Growth of the Lustre ecosystem, with more and more vendors like Terascala providing
powerful solutions in the market bodes well for Lustre," said Brent
Gorda, CEO of Whamcloud. "HPCwire
called Lustre the technology of the year for 2011. This agreement with
Terascala is a great example of how the Lustre ecosystem is thriving and growing.
All this points to more opportunity – for the community, for vendors, and for
customers – when choosing Lustre."
