Masstech Provides Archive Support for LTFS
On data stored in LTO-5 drives and libraries
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 13, 2012 at 3:11 pmMasstech Pte Ltd. announced its integrated support for IBM Linear Tape File System (LTFS) which provides users with direct and graphical access to data stored in LTO-5 tape drives and tape libraries.
As LTFS provides a platform for the interchange of media, its adoption of LTFS is an advance in the broadcast and post production industries. Complementing this solution are products like Masstech’s Emerald LE version 7.5, Topaz version 7.5 and Indigo content management and media asset management (MAM) systems.
Joe French, CEO and president of Masstech said: "IBM’s LTO-5 LTFS is the most significant innovation in data tape storage in recent years and I’m not surprised it’s created so much interest. For over a decade, Masstech has been at the forefront of innovation and we are committed to open standards and leading edge IT storage technologies like LTFS. Masstech’s affordable mini MAM and MAM products deliver more built-in standard features for Broadcasters, Newsrooms and Post Production than competing products in the market."
At NAB 2012, all of Masstech’s advanced solutions for digital archiving and restoring come equipped for LTFS material interchange and portability. LTFS tapes can offer alternative workflows and flexibility in the way content producers manage, move and store content. Whether you need to keep a backup copy of your media or you want to permanently archive the data using LTO-5, there is a Masstech solution that’s LTFS-enabled.
"LTFS has simplified the use of tapes and significantly reduced costs for the end user," said Bill Watson, IBM Storage ISV Portfolio Manager. "By enabling files stored on tape to be directly accessed in the same way they would be on an external hard drive, LTFS helps increase the efficiency and speed of content production. We are pleased to partner with companies such as Masstech who are staying relevant and up to speed with important industry developments such as providing support for LTFS."
Concerning LTFS-enabled features, the company:
- introduces read/write support for the LTO-5 LTFS format in a tape library giving the option to externalize particular or groups of files from the library and share content with other applications.
- supports LTFS deployment on all popular robotic libraries of any size. Non LTFS media can reside in the same library or be migrated to LTFS extending the effectiveness of the archive.
- introduces LTFS Asset updating to 3rd party systems like Avid Interplay without the need for complicated subscription services.
- will support ‘ingesting’ of LTFS media directly imported into a library for export/import between systems with metadata management.
