Glyph Shipping GPT50 Rugged Tabletop HDD
Up to 3TB, 33% smaller than predecessor
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 7, 2012 at 2:38 pmGlyph Production Technologies has begun shipping the GPT50, the new product in a line of rugged tabletop hard drives built for production environments.
Based on a 3.5-inch 7200 RPM hard drive, the GPT50 features a metal enclosure with an internal power supply and smart-fan. The GPT50 is 33% smaller in size than its predecessor, making it more portable, and updated recyclable packaging creates less waste.
The GPT50 is available with capacities of 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 3TB, and a 4TB model will also be available soon.
The GTP50 uses a temperature-controlled fan making it overall quieter than previous designs, while still offering excellent cooling. The case is designed with front-panel ventilation holes to draw cool air in, while exhausting warm air out the back – critical to the performance and reliability of the components.
"I have a 2TB GPT50 running here on my desktop and it is very quiet," said Barry Rudolph, in a GPT50 review for Music Connection Magazine (Feb. 2012). "Outside noises and my HVAC are much louder than this drive. Recording very quiet acoustic sounds in the same room-even close to my DAW rig-is now an everyday practice using my new GPT50."
Many tabletop drives use a proprietary ‘wall-wart’ style power supply. Wall-warts can become easily misplaced, or accidentally unplugged from the drive, and take up valuable outlet space. The GPT50 uses an industry-standard IEC power cord and pro-quality internal power supply for efficient and reliable power source.
With eSATA, FireWire 800, and USB 2.0 ports, compatible with Macintosh, Windows and UNIX operating systems, the GPT50 offers performance with up to 140 MB/sec read and write data transfer rates using an eSATA adapter.
The intelligent power switch must be held for 3 seconds to power off the GPT50, guarding against unintended power-off. The front-panel multifunction LED shows drive power status, activity, and also warns of a failing hard drive. For production environments that require rack-mounted gear, Glyph provides a rack kit to mount one or two GPT50 drives in a single rack space.
"Glyph is headed straight to the top of my recommendation list because of its incredible out-of-the box warranty, which includes one-year of overnight advance replacement in the continental US, two years of free basic data recovery, and a three-year warranty on the drive itself," said Brady Betzel, in a GPT50 review for Post Magazine (Feb. 2012) "Two years of free data recovery is worth a lot of money in my book. Just the peace of mind that if something goes wrong I have one more level of protection makes the GPT50 drive go to the top of my list of professional and reliable external hard drives."
The product can be offered with 3-year warranty, 2-year free Basic Data Recovery policy, and 1-year Advance Replacement policy.
