Enterprises Do Backup, Still Missing Recovery Strategy

Reports Novosoft.

Novosoft LLC, the developer of Handy Backup, a backup software, and provider of IT consultant services, announced the report presenting an analysis of major data loss causes among enterprise users.

The traditional annual paper features a trend: more companies do backup their valuable business data and do use handy software tools like remote network backup software more often, but still lack consistent disaster recovery plans.

"Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away… Companies did not have any disaster recovery plan: they just did not realize the vast necessity of backing up their data till it was too late, and all the emails, financial reports, and other vital docs had been lost. Then there came the trend of hand-made disaster recovery and backup tools by corporate users: companies had their IT departments writing geeky scripts for transferring data in and out, which just copied files and stored them to another local storage (the kindergarten level of data protection strategy). Our research on corporate disaster recovery strategies in 2011 points out that companies finally started realizing the awesome benefits of utilizing professional backup software. But strangely, that did not still take many of them to the obvious idea of picking a software solution that does back up and restores data efficiently too," said Aleks Dow, the head of Handy Backup Analytics Department.

Novosoft announced a report covering the issues of disaster recovery for corporate data. It presents an overview of the most wide spread causes of data loss in companies (system crash and human factor still trending), strategies for internal and external hard drive disaster recovery by corporate users, and evolution of offerings by data protection solution providers.

The key findings of the report are the two facts:

  • companies do backup their databases and stuff more often;
  • disaster recovery is still an option poorly planned and configured

The report says that issues like copying files to a FAT partition which silently truncates those to 2GB or minding to back up a IIS met abase along with server backup are still out of data protection scope for too many companies.

The report was announced at the same time with updated data restore and disaster recovery functionality by Handy Backup, now making it possible to get a low-level-copying complete snapshot of the entire workstation data on-the-run, with no service interruption.
