SonicWALL Embeds Infobright
For analysis of massive volumes of log data
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 1, 2012 at 2:57 pmInfobright, Inc. announced that SonicWALL, Inc., provider of network security and data protection solutions, is using Infobright Enterprise Edition (IEE) as the embedded analytic database supporting its management products for real-time monitoring of firewall and network security appliances.
Purpose-built for the fast and efficient analysis of machine-generated data, IEE enables users of SonicWALL appliances to load massive volumes of data and generate custom reports quickly and on demand. This gives SonicWALL customers insight into the health, performance and security of their networks.
SonicWALL’s integrated security solutions include performance firewalls, backup and recovery appliances, and anti-spam and secure remote access solutions for wired and wireless networks of all sizes. SonicWALL additionally offers several application traffic analytics products that enable customers to report on and analyze the activity on their infrastructure.
SonicWALL Analyzer is for customers with one or just a few SonicWALL appliances. Customers with multiple appliances typically opt for the SonicWALL Global Management System (GMS), which offers central policy management and monitoring in addition to reporting and analytics. By embedding IEE into both SonicWALL Analyzer and GMS, SonicWALL delivers faster analysis of the log data than was previously possible. This helps users identify potential network threats, visualize network activity such as application usage and websites visited, fulfill compliance requirements, conduct network forensics and more.
"When it comes to network security, today’s businesses need to identify and understand the root cause of potential threats in minutes, not hours or days," said Patrick Sweeney, vice president of product management at SonicWALL. "Infobright provides real-time data availability and allows users to quickly drill down for ad-hoc analysis and reporting to ensure the highest degree of security for their critical network infrastructure."
For SonicWALL Analyzer and GMS, faster query turnaround means custom reports can be generated in real-time and on demand. IEE also enables SonicWALL to give IT administrators direct access to raw data, not only summary data, for deeper and more granular analysis with drill-down capabilities. The data compression rate of 20:1 means that more months of log data can be loaded for analysis, broadening the scope of historical reporting available while significantly reducing costly disk storage requirements. Infobright may be run on SonicWALL hardware appliances, virtual appliances, or as part of a software application on a standard Windows server, with no high-end servers required.
"Network security is a data-intensive activity, requiring reporting and analytics that can transform enormous amounts of log data from multiple appliances and devices into useful intelligence," said Don DeLoach, CEO of Infobright. "Using Infobright with SonicWALL’s comprehensive analysis and reporting products gives users immediate access to all the information they need without the administrative effort and cost that other solutions require."
