Emulex Delivers Ethernet and FC Connectivity for HP Integrity Servers
Including OneConnect UCNA and LightPulse FC HBA
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 20, 2011 at 2:53 pmEmulex Corporation announced three new I/O connectivity solutions which include its OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapter (UCNA) and LightPulse FC Host Bus Adapter (HBA) architectures for use on HP Integrity servers.
First Dual-Port 8GFC and Dual-Port 1/10GbE Adapter
for HP Integrity Servers
Emulex’s OneConnect and LightPulse technologies have been combined and are included in a multi-function adapter that delivers the performance and scalability needed for mission-critical IT environments running on HP Integrity servers. The new HP PCIe Dual-Port 8Gb FC and dual-port 1/10GbE Adapter (P/N: AT094A) delivers two ports of 8Gb FC and two ports of 1/10GbE connectivity in a single adapter, allowing customers to double their server I/O capacity and performance, increase their failover protection with more redundant virtual partitions (vPARs) and reduce the number of adapters needed per server.
The combination of Emulex’s OneConnect
and LightPulse technologies
in the new HP PCIe Dual-Port 8GFC
and Dual-Port 1/10GbE Adapter
offers the following features and benefits:
- Performance and Flexibility: Leverages Emulex vEngine technology with full protocol offload support for TCP/IP and FC, removing the overhead of network and storage traffic from the CPU, improving scalability and increasing the number of vPARs that can be supported on a single server. It is backward compatible with 4Gb FC and 1GbE environments, protecting customers’ current infrastructure investments.
- Infrastructure Consolidation: With two ports of 8GFC and two ports of 1/10GbE connectivity in a single adapter, the adapter yields consolidation benefits by reducing the number of cards in servers and saving PCIe slots for other needs.
- Enterprise Reliability: By utilizing the adapter, customers can increase their failover protection with more fully redundant vPARs.
Next-Generation HP FlexFabric Adapter
and HP Integrity PCIe Converged Network Adapter
for HP Integrity Servers
Emulex’s OneConnect UCNA technology is also included in the next-generation HP FlexFabric Adapters and HP Integrity PCIe CNA for HP Integrity servers. HP FlexFabric Adapters and HP Integrity PCIe CNAs converge network and storage traffic for 10GbE and FCoE, helping clients reduce networking complexity, lower technology costs and promote a green data center. In addition, when used in conjunction with HP Virtual Connect Flex-10 Technology, HP FlexFabric Adapters allow 10Gb ports to be divided into multiple NIC and storage functions to optimize bandwidth allocation for virtualized server workloads.
The HP FlexFabric Adapters
and HP Integrity PCIe CNAs include:
- HP NC553m 10Gb 2-port FlexFabric Adapter (P/N: 613431-B21): supports 10GbE and FCoE traffic with Flex-10 functionality on HP Integrity BL860c i2, BL870c i2 and BL890c i2 server blades. HP NC553m consumes 20 percent lower power than older FlexFabric Adapters while providing future-ready single root I/O virtualization (SR-IOV) and iSCSI hardware capabilities.
- HP Integrity CN1100E PCIe Dual-Port CNA (P/N: AT111A): supports 10GbE and FCoE traffic on HP Integrity rx2800 i2 and HP Integrity Superdome 2 servers. The HP CN1100E Dual-Port CNAer (P/N: BK835A) is also supported with HP ProLiant servers.
"The HP multifunction adapter allows customers to benefit from the combined use of Emulex’s industry-leading LightPulse 8GFC and 10GbE OneConnect networking technologies on a single adapter, providing a single card to consolidate their I/O footprint and deliver increased scalability, performance and reliability that HP-UX customers require for their mission-critical applications," said Shaun Walsh, vice president of marketing, Emulex. "In addition, the use of Emulex’s OneConnect technology in the HP CN1100E CNAs combined with HP Top of Rack (ToR) FCoE converged network switches help reduce the number of cables, HBAs, NICs and switches needed when consolidating data network and storage traffic, resulting in significant power, cooling and capital savings."
"Enterprise clients need solutions to maintain peak performance of their mission-critical applications that provide the highest levels of availability, flexibility and resiliency to address changing business needs," said Kate O’Neill, director, Business Critical Systems Product Marketing and Programs, HP. "HP Integrity servers combined with the adaptability and built-in failover protection of Emulex’s new I/O connectivity solutions allow organizations to increase performance, optimize server usage while protecting against unexpected business interruptions."
