SoftLayer: Fiscal 3Q11 Financial Results

$85 million in revenues

SoftLayer Technologies, Inc. continued to experience strong operational and growth in the third quarter of 2011, reaching $85 million in revenues while achieving $34 million in EBITDA.

The company also appointed David Strohm, from Greylock Partners, to its board of directors to help guide and support the company’s continued market leadership and financial growth.

"SoftLayer is headed on a pretty impressive trajectory but we’re really just beginning to accelerate our efforts," said Lance Crosby, chief executive officer for SoftLayer. "The addition of David to our leadership team benefits us immensely, especially as it relates to managing growth and rapidly expanding into international markets. Our focus hasn’t changed. We’ll continue innovating and making our platform the standard for Internet savvy businesses looking for unique cloud, dedicated, and managed hosting solutions."

Milestones for SoftLayer’s 3Q11 include:

  • $85 million revenue
  • $34 million EBITDA
  • Expansion into Asia-Pacific (via Singapore)and Europe (via Amsterdam)
  • More than 100,000 servers under management

"Our growth is fueled by increased customer demand for our entire portfolio of hosting solutions," said George Karidis, chief strategy officer for SoftLayer. "Our approach resonates with customers because we offer an à la carte menu of service and options resulting in greater flexibility and control over IT resources while reducing operating costs. With our new data centers in Singapore and Amsterdam, we’ll be able to drive even more international revenue and sales."

David Strohm joins SoftLayer’s board of directors to help provide guidance over the company’s growth plans. A Silicon Valley veteran, David joined Greylock in 1980 and currently sits on the board of AtHoc, Bounty Jobs, EMC Corporation, MATRIXX Software, OpenDNS, Progreso Financiero, richrelevance, Tabula and VMware.

He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Harvard Business School.

Mr. Strohm led Greylock’s prior involvement with companies including as Doubleclick, Forte Software(acquired by Sun Microsystems), Kiva Software (acquired by Netscape), Legato Systems (acquired by EMC), Internet Security Systems (acquired by IBM), Mentor Graphics, Mobile Automation (acquired by iPass), ccMail (acquired by Lotus/IBM), and Cygnus (acquired by RedHat).
