For commitment and support of HPC and Lustre communities
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 1, 2011 at 2:57 pmXyratex Ltd has joined Open Scalable File Systems, Inc. (OpenSFS) as a formal member at the Promoter level.
OpenSFS is a non-profit, technical corporation that promotes collaboration among institutions using open source scalable file systems including Lustre, the open source parallel file system, and is committed to ascertaining requirements of high-end scalable file systems within the High Performance Computing (HPC) community. OpenSFS and its members will champion the prioritization of the requirements through its structure and interactions with primary HPC stakeholders in the industry.
"Xyratex is a leader in the Lustre community and we are pleased to have Xyratex join OpenSFS as a Promoter and Board Member," said Norman Morse , President/CEO of OpenSFS. "OpenSFS is committed to the support and development of open source scalable file systems for Linux HPC environments. We are currently focused on the Lustre file system for the HPC community and are happy to have Xyratex as part of this community. We look forward to working with Xyratex on open source enhancements to the Lustre environment."
Xyratex’s decision to join OpenSFS as a Promoter, the highest and most influential level of membership, aligns with its long-term commitment and support of the HPC and Lustre communities. As part of this membership, Xyratex will join the OpenSFS Board of Directors. Xyratex continues to be fully involved in the HPC community in support, feature contributions, and prioritizations to increase Lustre’s stability, scalability, and performance.
"Joining OpenSFS at the Promoter level is an important step in our strategic direction and our commitment to Lustre. With Xyratex’s OpenSFS membership, allied to our significant Lustre development team, and our contributions to the Lustre community’s roadmap, we’re demonstrating our dedication to the Lustre community," said Ken Claffey , Xyratex Senior Director of the ClusterStor business. "Lustre is a cornerstone of our HPC strategy and we’re committed to working with the Lustre community in order to ensure that it continues to evolve to meet the needs of a growing user community."
Another example of Xyratex’s commitment is the recent announcement and implementation of its Xyratex Lustre Community site, which provides Lustre related information regarding Xyratex efforts and contributions within the community. Coinciding with this site announcement, Xyratex released its Lustre Migrator Tool, which converts Lustre file system MDS on-disk data structures from version 1.8 format to version 2.x native format and is licensed under the GPL 2.0, to the entire Lustre community.
In support of the OpenSFS, European Open File Systems Association (EOFS), and the community, Xyratex was participating and speaking at the Lustre Community Pavilion’s SC11 Speaker Series with HPC experts and Lustre pioneers.
