Citrix Certified Virsto Storage Hypervisor
For XenDesktop
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 14, 2011 at 2:52 pmVirsto Software announced that the Virsto Software storage hypervisor was validated as Citrix Ready.
The first VM-Centric storage hypervisor to
achieve the Citrix Ready designation, Virsto brings increased storage
utilization gains, ease of virtual desktop provisioning to Citrix XenDesktop
and a reduction in the cost of storage in virtual desktop environments
of more than 50 percent.
The Citrix
Ready certification indicates solutions that are trusted to enhance
virtualization, networking and cloud computing offerings from Citrix, including
XenDesktop. It is awarded to products that meet verification criteria
set by Citrix, giving customers confidence in the compatibility of the joint
solution. Virsto’s storage hypervisor was designed to lower
storage costs and increase performance while accelerating provisioning in
virtual desktop environments.
Since its
2007 founding, Virsto has established innovation in storage
virtualization software for virtual machines. Withthis certification,
Virsto takes the lead in the multi-hypervisor strategy by announcing the first
VM-centric storage hypervisor to be named Citrix Ready, supporting integration
with XenDesktop to allow organizations to cut their cost of storage in
virtual desktop environments by more than half.
Virsto’s
storage hypervisor benefits users by:
- Changing the
economics of storage in virtual desktop deployments: by increasing storage utilization with higher VM density, reducing storage costs
by 50 percent or more, and delivering cost-per-desktop economics. - Supporting
enterprise-scale VDI: By delivering a solution that provides unlimited
snapshots and thin-provisioned clones to enable projects to scale to thousands
of virtual desktops, supporting heterogeneous storage to utilize and
consolidate existing storage resources and robust, cluster-aware HA and backup. - Simplifying
VDI management: By providing software-driven storage tiering to enable the
creation of high-performance storage solutions, decreasing
the provisioning time of thousands of images from hours to minutes, and
supporting bulk operations and other flexible tools for managing VDI at
scale.
Simon
Bramfitt, Desktop Virtualization Analyst, The Virtualization Practice said: "Anyone looking to implement an
enterprise-class VDI solution must consider Virsto Software for this key part
of their VDI environment. Virsto not only makes affordable, persistent image
VDI attainable but, by providing the management simplicity of persistent-image
VDI with the minimal storage requirements offered by non-persistent approaches,
it also has the potential to significantly increase VDI adoption."
Al
Monserrat, Senior Vice President, Sales and Services, Citrix said: "We see customers wanting to move to virtual
desktops as quickly as possible. The consumerization of IT, the proliferation
of new and unique consumer devices, and user demands for mobility are driving a
need to deliver applications to users anywhere on any device. Certified
solutions like Virsto‚s can make storage in a virtualized environment easier to
manage, perform better and decrease cost."
Mark Davis,
CEO, Virsto said: "Citrix Ready
certification is an important step in demonstrating our commitment to
supporting the leading server and desktop virtualization platforms. The
integration of Virsto’s purpose-built storage hypervisor for virtual machines
with XenDesktop delivers dramatic savings on storage in virtual desktop
deployments with accelerated provisioning and simplified management of
thousands of virtual desktops."
