Nexenta Client ($300) for Zmanda Amanda Enterprise
Jointly developed backup solution
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 10, 2011 at 2:47 pmZmanda, Inc., provider of open source based backup solutions, and Nexenta Systems, Inc., in Openstorage solutions, announced availability of jointly developed and certified backup solutions.
Amanda Enterprise (AE), Zmanda’s network backup product, now natively supports backup of NexentaStor storage appliances, as well as backup of heterogeneous environments to NexentaStor.
Newly-released Zmanda NexentaStor Client provides fast and efficient backups of data stored on NexentaStor. Data ships directly from NexentaStor to the Amanda Enterprise backup server, saving valuable network bandwidth. Zmanda Nexenta Client leverages various ZFS and zVol backup methods and is configurable to meet the needs of a specific workload. Zmanda NexentaStor Client also provides direct backups of raw volumes (zVols). For example if VMware based VMs are using volumes stored on Nexenta (accessed via iSCSI or Fiber Channel), Zmanda Nexenta Client provides raw backups of these volumes (while maintaining thin provisioning) without installing a client software in the VMs.
In addition, NexentaStor now has been formally certified as the destination of backup files for the Amanda Enterprise server. Amanda Enterprise can perform network-wide backup of heterogeneous systems, including Linux, Windows, Solaris, and OS X-based systems onto NexentaStor. NexentaStor, built upon ZFS technology, eliminates redundant backups, reduces business downtime, and ensures critical information is always protected and can be restored in seconds. With it, corporate compliance and rules of governance for data retention are managed easily. Users can reuse information across lines of business and industry. And the entire backup environment can be managed from a single console.
"Zmanda provides extremely cost-effective and simple to use backup solutions for our customers who prize openness and efficiency," said Evan Powell, CEO of Nexenta. "Optimized backups of NexentaStor storage from Zmanda will enable our users to realize even more value from our platform."
"NexentaStor provides open, enterprise-class storage based on ZFS, making it a perfect storage repository for Amanda Enterprise," said Chander Kant, CEO of Zmanda. "With this integration, our customers will find NexentaStor a scalable and robust choice for storing their backup files."
Amanda Enterprise is an enhanced and supported version of the open source backup and recovery software. Amanda Enterprise allows users to backup, archive, and recover servers, workstations, desktops, and business-critical applications across a network. The backup data and archives can be stored on disks, tape, optical devices, or storage clouds such as Amazon S3.
The Nexenta Client for Amanda Enterprise is available for $300 and may be purchased from Zmanda.
