This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 26, 2011 at 2:56 pmVirsto Software, provider of VM-centric storage hypervisor software, announced that Virsto for VDI, Hyper-V edition, has earned certification for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2microsoft.
Virsto for Hyper-V is the first storage hypervisor solution to be certified for Windows Server 2008.
The Windows Server 2008 logo certification indicates that applications and solutions meet technical standards established for stability, security, reliability, availability, Windows fundamentals, and platform compatibility.
It includes testing for features that make applications robust and easier to use. Virsto for VDI, Hyper-V edition v 2.0.37 passed testing requirements set by Microsoft in their Application Specification for Windows Server 2008 R2. The testing was performed by VeriTest Labs, the sole authorised certification lab for the Certified for Microsoft Windows program.
Virsto’s software solution installs directly into the Hyper-V parent partition, enabling users of Windows Server 2008 R2 to achieve VM density, I/O performance and storage capacity utilisation. Customer deployments in virtualised environments show that Virsto technology can triple I/O throughput on both high end and commodity storage hardware, while accelerating and simplifying the virtual machine storage provisioning process.
"The evolution of the storage virtualisation market has seen the emergence of purpose built storage hypervisors designed specifically to optimise storage at the virtual machine level. This trend will accelerate the migration of high-end storage management features from the array to the hypervisor. Virsto has taken a lead in the Hyper-V market by delivering the feature set required for the hypervisor to morph into a true storage hypervisor," said George Crump, Principal Analyst at analyst group Storage Switzerland.
"Windows Server 2008 R2 certification will give IT departments, cloud service providers, and channel partners confidence in Virsto’s integration and compatibility with Microsoft Hyper-V environments. When we launched our first storage hypervisor products with Microsoft in 2009, Virsto made a commitment to the Hyper-V market that has paid off handsomely for our customers and partners. This certification is evidence of Virsto’s early commitment to optimise storage management and performance at the virtual machine level, and demonstrates our leadership position supporting this important virtualisation platform," said Mark Davis, CEO, Virsto.
