BridgeSTOR Announces De-Dupe, Compression and Encryption Solution
For Windows Server 2008, with Exar PCIe card
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 28, 2011 at 2:53 pmBridgeSTOR, LLC announced an extension of its Virtual Storage – Advanced Data Reduction (VS-ADR) strategy to include deduplication, compression and encryption card-and-software solutions for installation in new and existing Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 servers backed by an unprecedented data reduction guarantee.
The company will offer a Dedupe and Compression PCIe cards accompanied by BridgeSTOR software that enables new or in-place Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 computers to add capacity-multiplying data deduplication and compression as well as encryption to selected applications.
The Dedupe and Compression Cards will be available for HP ProLiant DL180, DL185, Dell PowerEdge R510, R610, R710 and R810, IBM x-Series M2 and M3, selected SuperMicro and other servers.
The hardware component of the BridgeSTOR Dedupe and Compression cards is the Exar, Inc. 8200 Series data reduction and security processor installed on a PCIe (x4) card. The Exar 8200 series processor is a specialized performance component that enables data deduplication, compression and encryption to be performed in-line without compromising performance and without burdening the main system processor.
Software supplied by BridgeSTOR with the Dedupe and Compression Cards provides the system interface that performs deduplication and compression at the NTFS cluster level, adds the GUI, drivers, data reduction processing logic, block manager and utilities required to implement advanced data reduction with enhanced security in a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 environment.
BridgeSTOR is standing behind the effectiveness of its advanced data reduction by offering money-back data reduction guarantee. The ‘35%/35-Day Guarantee’ program ensures that buyers will require a minimum of 35% less storage when compared to a baseline of traditional storage within 35 days of the BridgeSTOR product being placed into production, or the buyer can return the product to BridgeSTOR for a full refund of the purchase price.
"Our appliance customers have enthusiastically embraced dedupe, compression and encryption in plug-and-play appliances," said John Matze, BridgeSTOR founder and CEO. "After experiencing the benefits delivered by the appliances, many have returned to us to expand their use of the technology without the need to buy new servers. BridgeSTOR’s broadened strategy allows us to continue serving appliance buyers looking for pre-configured, drop-in solutions as well as buyers who don’t mind cracking the covers of a server to install a PCIe card. Our new 35%/35-Day guarantee now eliminates the risk for anyone thinking about our solutions."
BridgeSTOR’s Advanced Data Reduction reduces the cost of acquiring storage hardware and provides on-going reductions in data center operational expenses including electrical power, cooling, rack space, post-warranty support and management time requirements.
BridgeSTOR’s initial card and software offerings will parallel the appliance focus and will be directed at Microsoft DPM 2010, NAS and backup-to disk applications. The new products will be announced throughout the months of September and October 2011.
