Proact to Update PHPOY’s Virtual Solutions
With EMC Clariion CX4-120 and FC switches
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 13, 2011 at 2:53 pmProact Group will update the disk system of Pohjois-Hämeen Puhelin Oy (PHPOY).
The new disk system will serve a VMware environment.
PHPOY is a local teleoperator operating in the Kuorevesi, Kuru, Mänttä-Vilppula, Ruovesi and Virrat region. PHPOY is a part of the Finnish Finnet communications group.
The new disk system will be used for running PHPOY’s own data network infrastructure servers and those of its customers. The new technical solutions of the disk system and VMware provide cost savings and make maintenance easier.
"The previous EMC storage system had reach the end of its life cycle; therefore, upgrade to a newer one was sensible due to the maintenance costs alone," says Information Manager Esa Juntto of PHPOY.
"We provided PHPOY with a new EMC Clariion CX4-120 disk system and fibre switches. We also updated the VMware virtual environment to version VMware vSphere 4.1," says Sales Manager Jukka Rintamäki of Proact.
Proact and PHPOY have been cooperating for a long time.
"Previously, we had purchased an Avamar backup system from Proact. Due to the great success of this project, our cooperation expanded to other areas, as well. The decision to continue the partnership was therefore easy to make," asserts Juntto.
"The most critical part of the project was updating the VMware environment. The production environment must operate without interruptions, and the possibility of compatibility problems is always great when software is updated with newer versions. However, Proact had a good and clear plan on how to proceed," says Juntto.
"During the critical transfer stage, we used VMware’s StoragevMotion technology. It held up to the last stroke," continues Rintamäki of Proact. "PHPOY has invested heavily in building fibre connections. Now, the fast connections open the way for brand new services in Pohjois-Häme: data centre solutions, virtual servers, backup services and remote support."
