Accommodating up to eight 1.8-inch SSDs for 2TB

SANBlaze Technology, Inc. announced the SB-RTM468 rear transition module (RTM).

The SB-RTM468 accommodates up to 8 1.8" SSD drives which can combine to provide over 2TB of storage in a field serviceable, ATCA compliant RTM. The RTM is designed for low power, high temperature environments as well as rugged, high capacity, high throughput, mission critical applications and NEBS-3 class endurance.

The RTM uses PCIe to access multi TB solid-state storage capacity. The RTMs construction accommodates up to 8 SSD, with a factory configured choice of MLC, eMLC or SLC SSD technology. Utilizing soon to be released 400G SSD modules from a number of vendors provides 3.2TB of Flash-based storage on the RTM.

"Customers are telling us that their ATCA data-plane applications need bigger and faster local storage for caching intermediate data I/O," said Steve Looby, Director of Product Management at SANBlaze. "For these extreme performance applications, the SB-RTM468 represents a new tier of fast local terabyte storage that offers vastly more capacity than system DDR memory and is magnitudes faster than rotating disk drives."

Field configuration options enable users to combine commodity SSD with RAID protections schemes. Use RAID-0 (stripping) to group all flash memory into a single logical disk (default) or optionally apply a RAID-1 (mirroring) service for improved MTBF. Configuration tools are available for pre-boot (BIOS) or OS setup tools that include Windows and Linux.

The SB-RTM468 uses industry-standard software drivers that are bundled with major operating systems, and Linux source available to help customers achieve fast time to market.

The SANBlaze SB-RTM468 is available.
