Xiotech Hybrid ISE Platform Available
Combining SSD and HDD
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 10, 2011 at 2:55 pmXiotech Corporation announced the general availability of the company’s Hybrid ISE platform.
Hybrid ISE combines SSD and HDD leveraging its application-aware Continuous Adaptive Data Placement technology providing best price/performance/capacity ratios. Hybrid ISE changes the economics for application deployment that just wasn’t possible before.
Examples of the value that Hybrid ISE provides:
- Increase the number of virtual machines per host by up to 10 times
- Accelerate the performance per virtual machine by up to 10 times
- Deploy thousands of virtual desktops cost effectively with high performance and rapid boot-up times
- Eliminate I/O bottlenecks for any IOPS-intensive applications including database, data mining, big data analytics, etc.
- Support high-bandwidth applications without having to invest enormous amounts of capital
"Hybrid ISE solves a major and pervasive problem in every data center," said Steve Sicola, CTO of Xiotech. "Servers are getting faster and the cost of performance continues to go down. Meanwhile, hard drives and storage systems just can’t keep pace and the price of performance keeps going up. This isn’t sustainable. Hybrid ISE restores balance in the data center, representing a major shift in how we implement applications going forward."
Hybrid ISE Momentum
- Customers – Hybrid ISE has new customer implementations including Fortune 500 corporations and companies that span all market sizes and sectors including financial services, technology, healthcare, insurance, automotive and higher education.
- Performance Results – In industry tests Hybrid ISE shattered benchmarks for performance and scale. In the testing in the Microsoft Partner Solutions Center (MPSC), Hybrid ISE maxed out three 32-core, 128GB servers against a single Xiotech Hybrid ISE datapac – one half of a full ISE system capacity. To push Hybrid ISE to its performance threshold, it is estimated that it would take an increase of workload by a factor of 10.
- Industry Recognition – Hybrid ISE topped a field of more than 300 submissions and 46 finalists across 16 categories winning the coveted Breakthrough Product and Attendees’ Pick Awards at Microsoft’s annual Tech·Ed 2011 conference in Atlanta.
Alan Atkinson, President and CEO of Xiotech, said: "We’ve developed a new class of storage that changes the economics for customers’ applications. Hybrid ISE provides SSD performance at HDD pricing, outperforming storage systems that are up to 10 times as expensive. Hybrid ISE enables customers to implement new applications, achieve greater levels of consolidation, and frees up capital. Hybrid ISE represents a market shift that alters the economics of IT, opening the floodgates of new opportunities for our users."
David Hayes, Director of the Microsoft Partner Solutions Center, said: "The MPSC testing is designed to put maximum stress on systems so that customers can have the utmost confidence in deploying them in support of business-critical functions. In such a demanding context, Hybrid ISE performed beyond our wildest expectations. Where most systems have failed before, we felt like we hardly put a dent in the Hybrid ISE potential. We estimate it could take upwards of 100 servers to push Hybrid ISE to its actual breaking point."
Mark Ghiglieri, Founder/CEO of Masterpiece Investments, said: "We are in phase one of our implementation of Hybrid ISE and we believe we can go from 10:1 server consolidation to 50:1 based on what we are seeing Hybrid ISE can do. The efficiency improvements and cost savings are astonishing."
Rick Young, Network Systems Manager, College of Veterinary Medicine, Texas A&M University, said: "At Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, server virtualization is a business-critical project that spans across our entire college. Proper implementation and hardware will save us money and improve our student, faculty and administration satisfaction levels, so it’s vital that it is deployed flawlessly. The importance of this project completely reset our requirements for storage performance – we needed more IOPS as well as the ability to deal with random spikes in utilization. Hybrid ISE was the first product we found that deals with both high performance and the unknown performance storms – all without skipping a beat. It’s a revolutionary storage product. Xiotech has always provided the tools to support our high-performance storage needs, and with Hybrid ISE, they have raised the bar again. Xiotech continues to go to the mat for me to resolve my business issues that need peak performance."
Sean Larson, Network Administrator at Sycamore Community Unit School District 427, said: "We are always seeking new and innovative ways to improve the educational experience of our faculty and students across the district by getting more out of our existing technology investments. Hybrid ISE represents the ideal technology for helping to reduce our desktop management costs and complexities. Working with Xiotech has helped our district dramatically expand the performance of our virtual infrastructure without having to compromise on performance or storage capacity."
Lisa Bibby, National Corporate Accounts Manager at Ntersect, said: "Within the VDI world, price, performance and capacity are three of the most important requirements for storage. Hybrid ISE provides the ideal balance of all of these – it is an unmatched solution."
Marc Boitel, Managing Director at Open Products, Networks & Software SA-NV, said: "Hybrid ISE has introduced a new paradigm – shattering the binary decision of selecting for superior performance or capacity. Finally, a storage solution delivers impressive IOPS and optimized capacity – all while preserving valuable rack space. Hybrid ISE’s intelligent combination of SSD and HDD guarantees that the most used data is optimally located on the right media. Based on state-of-the-art hardware with software that delivers in server virtualization and VDI environments, Xiotech’s ISE storage systems can serve as the foundation for matching any customer requirements – from archiving to high performance, from departmental to data center implementations."
Mark Peters, Senior Analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group, said: "Although storage system performance is increasingly crucial, the price users have to pay for that performance is of at least equal importance… after all, pretty much any challenge can be addressed if you’re willing to throw enough money at it. And there’s the rub – many want the performance, but few are willing or able to fund it; and this ‘need gap’ is increasing as IT demands outgrow IT resources. Hybrid ISE is a great example of how extensive intellectual property is a viable alternative to address the challenge of matching performance with affordability. The ‘brain’ rather than ‘brawn’ approach is how Hybrid ISE delivers and derives its value."
