Bocada Enhanced Reporting for Storage Lifecycle Policies
To Prism solution
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 10, 2011 at 2:54 pmBocada Inc. has added enhanced reporting functionality to its Prism solution that provides a clear view into the performance of duplication jobs while tracking the data as it moves through its entire lifecycle – from initial creation to offsite storage.
As part of the enhancements made to the Prism Policy module, end users of Symantec NetBackup duplication and copying functionality including Vaulting and Storage Lifecycle Policies now have the ability to view a list of job data at the server, policy, client and schedule levels all from a single view. This provides the ability to identify storage lifecycle initiated backup jobs and their destination media to quickly verify that backup copies were successfully made whether it went to tape or to disk. Additional copies created by disk staging are also captured and reported on with detail. It provides a consolidated, simple way to see the end-to-end data lifecycle in the backup process. NetBackup users will benefit from the reports ability to connect duplication and backup jobs whose relationship to each other was previously invisible and unknown.
Prior to Prism’s sophisticated reporting, a NetBackup administrator had to open each and every policy to review and modify its schedule and destination. To find backup failures and errors, administrators would have to scan the activity monitor and try to associate the initial backup job with the duplication job. Now end users will be able to see a high level summary job with dashboard reporting that includes data lifecycle trends and the ability to drill down on failures, volume pool and policy information, along with job and error details. A new NetBackup SLP Configuration report allows end users to view and analyze their SLP configurations directly from Prism.
"Never before has a NetBackup user been given such insight and detail into the interworking of their environment," said Ralph Wynn Product Marketing Manager for Bocada. "The hassles of manually checking every individual backup job to ensure that it was successful and data has been duplicated to the correct location is now a thing of the past. Whether you are a financial institution required to keep multiple copies of data for compliance, or a SMB looking to get data offsite, the reporting that we’ve built into Prism simplifies SLP configurations and management and empowers users with the confidence that their mission-critical information is safely backed up and protected at any and every stage of its lifecycle."
More than a backup reporting solution, Bocada Prism is a service management application that was purpose built to help organizations move through the DPSM model, a multi-phase set of best practices to ensure cost-effective delivery of data protection services to customers. Bocada leveraged years of customer experiences to create a workflow-driven, analysis solution with built in SLA impact analysis, change tracking, trend analysis and a searchable knowledge base to ensure organizations can meet business goals and improve operational efficiencies. When used over an extended period of time, Prism provides a historical overview of the backup environment to see if it is operating the way it should be. This information is vital in addressing whether changes need to be made, the architecture needs updating, and what data is readily available, as well as to forecast future growth.
