CSP and FAST LTA Cooperates

For archiving solution based on Chronos and Silent Cube

The database archiving specialist CSP GmbH & Co. KG, Großköllnbach, and long-term storage specialist FAST LTA AG, Munich, have signed a cooperation agreement in Germany.

Initial positive experiences gained from a customer project for Deutsche Telekom, where the database archiving solution Chronos and the Silent Cube storage system were used together, marked the start of an intensive cooperation. The use of both systems together here ensured security in the long-term archiving of old date from relational databases.

Chronos allows data from databases to be stored almost seamlessly and audit-proof on the redundant hard disk storage from FAST LTA. An efficient communication between the systems is guaranteed through the cooperation of both companies. Following thorough testing, Chronos received the Approved Solution status for Silent Cubes.

As a result, users of Chronos now have a further storage possibility available for archiving. Companies can profit in the process from the high level of independence in terms of storage solution manufacturers. In the development of this joint solution for long-term archiving, CSP and FAST LTA are primarily focussing on companies from the financial sector, as well as those from telecommunications, energy provision and industry.

"Many companies still have significant need for optimisation in the area of long-term archiving. We offer a complete solution together with FAST LTA that makes it possible to save archive data of all types in an audit-proof way. Chronos also focuses here on the still frequently untapped but compliance-relevant aspect of database archiving," says Stefan Brandl, Product Manager for Database Archiving at CSP.

"The Silent Cube and Chronos complement each other perfectly. In combination, both systems represent an excellent complete solution for all those companies who still want to use their cost-saving potential despite constantly increasing data volumes, without having to dispense with complete data security in the process," commented Reiner Bielmeier, Member of the Management Board at FAST LTA.

The Silent Cube has been developed to meet the demands of long-term archiving for digital data. The system is particularly protected against the loss of data, hardware malfunction and incorrect configuration. It is scalable into the petabyte range with low energy and operating costs. Chronos also places a focus on cost reduction. With the help of this solution, data from a relational database, which does not need to be accessed or is only occasionally accessed, is written to the Silent Cube. The majority of the data in databases has been shown to be largely inactive, therefore, only a small proportion needs to be available for direct online access by the user.

As a result of legal and internal regulations such as GDPdU, GoBS and Basel, companies must nevertheless store a large proportion of the database contents. This fact and the constantly increasing volume of data are the reasons why the performance of databases suffers considerably over time. Therefore, Chronos relieves the databases of the inactive data, optimises response times and at the same time delivers audit proofing and compliance. However, access to the archived database content is provided where required – even when the database structure has been changed in the meantime.
