Liberté Ousts HP LeftHand
Selecting Scale Computing
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 14, 2011 at 2:48 pmScale Computing announced that Liberté, an international dairy manufacturer, has deployed Scale’s intelligent storage to complete the company’s virtualisation project, saving the company thousands of dollars.
Founded in 1936, and based in St-Hubert, Quebec, Liberté is a dairy manufacturer with a long history or producing dairy products including various cheeses and yogurt. What started as a small, local business has evolved into a thriving, international company with plans to expand into the natural food market.
With operations spread across six locations, Liberté decided to virtualise all servers required for operations in order to improve the company’s computing infrastructure. The company selected Citrix XenServer as its virtualisation technology and LeftHand Networks as its storage vendor for the project. In the midst of its virtualisation project, Liberté discovered that additional storage capacity was needed to achieve completion. Additional storage from now, HP LeftHand was priced well outside of Liberté’s budget. Concerned that the virtualization project would not be completed, Liberté needed to find a storage solution that was simple, affordable, scalable and Citrix XenServer compatible.
After researching options and receiving a recommendation from Groupe SDP, Liberté selected Scale Computing’s S-Series storage offering. Scale’s Intelligent Clustered Operating System (ICOS) architecture provides parallel performance for large and unpredictable virtualized workloads and is scalable, making it possible to grow node by node with no disruption to data or services. ICOS is high-performance and highly available, with redundancy and data replication built-in. Scale offered Liberté the flexibility to grow as needed, Citrix XenServer certification and attentive customer support – at a price that was thousands of dollars below HP LeftHand. Liberté deployed two S2 Starter Clusters with 6TB of usable capacity.
Scale’s S2 Starter Clusters have exceeded Liberté’s expectations delivering reduced costs, increased control and added convenience. "Scale delivered everything that it promised – and then some," said Daniel Husereau, network administrator, Liberté. "From configuration to deployment – we were up in running in three hours. What you see is what you get."
Since purchasing Scale, the company has been able to complete its initial virtualisation project, which at one point was at risk of not being completed. Scale’s ICOS architecture enables Liberté’s IT department to scale as necessary by non-disruptively adding new nodes at will, increasing the capacity of the entire array. Liberté realized ROI from day one and was able to purchase two 6TB systems and one 3TB system from Scale at the same price as one 3TB system from LeftHand.
"I didn’t think it was possible for a company deliver all of these features at a price that was drastically below HP LeftHand," said Husereau. "Scale has delivered more bang for our buck. We couldn’t be happier."
