IQMedia, Sumisho Computer Systems and Percona Like Virident
And its tachIOn PCIe SSDs
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 15, 2011 at 3:01 pmVirident Systems announced that customers and partners around the world are capitalizing on its PCI Express (PCIe) solid state drives (SSDs), which eliminate I/O bottlenecks in today’s applications.
The Virident tachIOn SSDs deliver sustained performance of up to 300,000 I/O operations per second (IOPS) with a 4 KB block size on mixed read-write workloads. Virident’s tachIOn delivers several times the performance of competing PCIe SSD products and is hundreds of times faster than hard disk drives. The Virident PCIe-based SSDs are for data-intensive workloads such as databases, business analytics, simulation, visualization, and high-performance computing. Virident was exhibit at SNW Spring 2011.
The Virident solution has already demonstrated return on investment for its customers. "The tachIOn PCIe SSD card has helped us greatly in reducing our index build times for our search engine at iQMedia," said Lakshmi Venkataswamy, CTO and co-founder of IQMedia Corp. "We are now able to build search indexes five times faster, allowing us to provide better service for our clients."
The Virident SSD storage devices are implemented in a high-density, low-profile PCIe-compliant form factor and engineered with a modular design that can be deployed in industry-standard servers. "This relationship was formed in response to demand for Virident’s tachIOn SSD solution in Japan, where predictable, sustained performance and enterprise-class reliability are critical factors to success, making it the ideal solution for the Japanese mission-critical enterprises," said Naoki Ike, general manager, IT Engineering Unit of Sumisho Computer Systems in Japan. "tachIOn is the densest, highest-performance PCIe SSD in the market. The compact size takes only a single slot in a 1U or 2U servers."
Virident’s tachIOn SSDs are uniquely architected for reliability. The combination of their flash-aware RAID capability, ECC and dynamic global wear leveling ensures that data integrity is sustained over the life of the product, providing enterprise-class reliability for mission-critical and business-critical applications.
"All our tests have shown that tachIOn not only delivers superior performance, two to three times more than other PCIe SSD products, but also is able to sustain this performance advantage under extreme workloads," said Vadim Tkachenko, CTO of Percona Inc. "With Virident tachIOn you can consolidate 5-15 servers into a single server, providing significant TCO savings."
