Next-Generation of Exar De-Dupe, Compression and Encryption for Primary Storage
BitWackr 2.2, for Windows and Linux
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 12, 2011 at 3:08 pmExar Corporation announced the next-generation of Exar’s BitWackr solution for Windows and Linux, offering multiple volume support, a 50% increase in I/O performance for primary storage applications and integration with the RSA key manager enabling Enterprise-level, secure storage applications.
BitWackr 2.2 provides OEMs with a solution that is capable of reducing data through deduplication and lossless compression across all storage tiers, enabling efficiencies in data management, capacity, power and time.
"The BitWackr solution has once again broken new ground, enabling the ‘secure Cloud on-ramps’ necessary for companies to leverage the benefits of Cloud Storage and delivering data reduction efficiencies to primary storage," said Bob Farkaly, director of marketing, Storage Systems for Exar. "BitWackr can compress and deduplicate data providing a 2:1 or greater capacity savings, as well as encrypting the data while it traverses the network to the cloud or to on premise storage."
Exar’s patent-pending Virtual Block Device (VBD) technology allows BitWackr to remain transparent to applications, operating systems, file systems and volume managers, enabling OEMs to quickly and easily incorporate BitWackr into their storage products. An advantage of Exar’s BitWackr 2.2 is the use of PCIe hardware acceleration technologies, which provides the in-line performance required for Tier-0 and Tier-1 storage deployments.
About BitWackr
Exar’s BitWackr incorporates specialized low latency hardware that provides a distinct deduplication, encryption and compression performance advantage and enables primary storage advanced data reduction techniques to operate in-line with little or no performance impact. BitWackr is a developmental shortcut to the incorporation of data reduction into primary and nearline storage products. BitWackr customers implementing deduplication, compression, encryption and thin provisioning retain the ability to add their own development efforts to deliver distinctive value-added functionality.
BitWackr 2.2 is available for evaluation and incorporation into OEM products and solution offerings.
