NVerzion TeraStore Enables Southern Oregon Public TV’s Move

From tape library toward file-based storage

NVerzion, provider of cutting-edge tools for digital broadcasting and television station automation, announced that Southern Oregon Public Television (SOPTV) has upgraded to a new version of the NVerzion TeraStore network-connected storage system at its Medford, Ore. facilities.

The new system will help SOPTV replace an SD-based tape library with one comprised of format-agnostic digital files as the station moves toward a completely file-based storage system.

With the rapid upgrade to HD programming, the new TeraStore installation lets the station move away from Sony BETACAM® tape as the basic medium for programming storage and provides for better long-term storage of digital files. The new product also works with existing NVerzion NControl, NTime, NBase, and Ngest applications that are already deployed at the station as part of the NVerzion automation system.

"As a rural public television station, we need an archival solution that is high-capacity, cost-effective, and simple for our team to operate," said Tom Werner, director of technology at SOPTV. "NVerzion is a great company to do business with. Their support is outstanding and their product is reliable, well-designed, and perfectly suited to our needs – the TeraStore has exceeded all of our requirements."

Prior to this upgrade, SOPTV had been using a previous version of TeraStore along with Sony BETACAM and HDCAM videotape for the past eight years. The upgraded system enables the station to break away from SD programming storage and eliminate the cost of videotape media.

The NVerzion TeraStore line of disk-based storage solutions features expandability and integrates with all the popular server platforms, including Omneon, Grass Valley, Ross, 360, and others. NVerzion’s embedded Xpansion file management software provides seamless, automated file migration based on user-defined rules and on-air scheduling requirements. Furthermore, the new, expanded TeraStore line can now support up to 144 TB of network-attached storage with the addition of a 3-TB/48-bay configuration.

"With its compelling combination of unlimited expandability and easy integration, the TeraStore offers TV stations like SOPTV a powerful system that is cost-effective and reliable," said Scott Murphy, president of NVerzion. "We are extremely pleased to support long-time customers like SOPTV as they update their systems and move toward adopting smart storage solutions that help enhance their workflows."
