Bocada Prism Assessment Program For Resellers

To better understand backup environments

Bocada Inc. announced the availability of the Bocada Prism Assessment Program, which provides channel partners with the tools to provide customers with an in-depth look at their total data protection environments and the overall status of their backup infrastructure.

The Bocada Prism Assessment Program gives resellers guidelines and training to supply customers with a better understanding of their current backup environment, providing information about their state of operation, how they can isolate and address problem areas, an analysis of current capacity use, and the methods required to automate data collection and reporting.

The program is offered in one of two assessment models. The Prism Basic Assessment provides customers with a view into the success rates of backups and recoveries; problem areas and potential resolutions; potential infrastructure deficiencies; and overall trends in backup durations, errors and capacity use.

Reports generated are from the first phase of the DPSM model and can include a health check dashboard; backup trends and details; backup duration trends and details; occupancy trends and details; backup job details (failures); recovery job details; and job trends.

The Prism Advanced Assessment model moves into the next two phases of the DPSM model and provides a more comprehensive look at the overall status of the customer’s backup infrastructure including a policy review, which can determine if policies need to be adjusted to mitigate failures and provides suggestions on standardizing policies, and a configuration of SLAs based on critical data assets that can show overall performance against the SLAs and offers a best course of action to improving operations.

"Most organizations don’t use or have the tools to know what is really going on their backup environments," said Nancy Hurley, CEO of Bocada. "The Bocada Prism Assessment Program provides everything necessary for resellers to take advantage of the Bocada DPSM methodology to help organizations ensure data recoverability, improve services delivery, reduce risk and significantly lower overall data protection costs.  Resellers are excited to have the guidelines of the Bocada Prism Assessment Program to highlight for customers the goals and benefits of the DPSM process and what all of the results mean.  It’s an easy entry for a customer to get the true status of their backup environment."

In addition, the Bocada Prism Assessment Program validates customer assumptions regarding the recoverability of data and whether they are meeting SLAs. It also can uncover opportunities for changes within the backup infrastructure, such as the need to add de-duplication devices or VTLs, and can justify the need for adoption of automated DPSM solutions. If, after the assessment, the customer wants to install Bocada Prism in their backup environment, they may be eligible for a license credit from Bocada.

"The assessment service offering from Bocada is such a simple tool we can bring into a customer’s backup environment, non-intrusively, to help optimize their hardware and software," said Marcellus Tabor, CTO of Bedrock Technology Partners, a specialist in environmental data management solutions based in San Diego, CA. "It is a great value for our clients with tangible results in just a few weeks."

Much more than a backup reporting solution, Bocada Prism is a service management application that was purpose built to help organizations move through the DPSM model, a multi-phase set of best practices to ensure cost-effective delivery of data protection services to customers. Bocada leveraged years of customer experiences to create a workflow-driven, analysis solution with built in SLA impact analysis, change tracking, trend analysis and a searchable knowledge base to ensure organizations can meet business goals and improve operational efficiencies. When used over an extended period of time, Prism provides a historical overview of the backup environment to see if it is operating the way it should be. This information is vital in addressing whether changes need to be made, the architecture needs updating, and what data is readily available, as well as to forecast future growth.
