Recovery Software for Mac OS X by CleverFiles

CleverFiles introduced their free beta version of Disk Drill, a new data recovery software for Mac OS, back in 2010. Disk Drill gets the final touch and is updated under the tag of ‘final release’ to version 1.1.

In addition to hundreds of minor bug fixes and corrected crashes, all reported by beta users from all over the world, Deep Scan speed increase (deep-scanning is now 3-5 times faster), Disk Drill 1.1 offers support for new file types (like raw camera images including NEF, CR2; Apple-related data like PAGES, MOV, etc), scanning session management, live preview while scanning, iPod recovery (non-iOS devices only), portable mode and a very nice and user-friendly tiny pre-configuration wizard.

Disk Drill 1.1 also features S.M.A.R.T. monitoring and now helps prevent hard disk’s failures by constantly checking a number of parameters provided by hard drive manufacturers. If your disk gets unmounted by itself during scanning due to bad blocks, or produces ticking noise and is likely to go offline for good before you get all your data back from it, since Disk Drill 1.1 you can backup any disk into DMG, which can be mounted in the Mac for delayed recovery. The main difference here is the fact that this disk image is created byte-to-byte, meaning even the empty space is copied, so you can recover from this image as if you were recovering from the real media, which might be no longer available.

Add a number of improvements of the user interface, Recovery Vault, recovered items size prediction, background scanning and recovery, and more new features, and you get a worthy update of Disk Drill, a Mac-style data recovery software.

Disk Drill lets you recover from HFS/HFS+, FAT, NTFS and other file systems, and from initialized and formatted disks. While there’s surely no guarantee that every bit of lost information can be recovered, Disk Drill does a great job on maximizing your chances to get your memories or work documents back.

Disk Drill is compatible with any PPC or Intel Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 or newer and is 64-bit ready. Since Apple released Mac OS Lion (10.7) Developer Preview, this version of Mac OS is also supported.
