Up to 60 SAS/ATA 3.5-Inch HDDs in 4U Packed by UIT
The Ultra Dense SV4060j JBOD
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 22, 2011 at 3:05 pmAs data storage requirements continue to grow exponentially, there is an increasing need for high-capacity, small form factor solutions. In answer to this problem, United Information Technology (UIT) Co. Ltd. have developed the Ultra Dense SV4060j that houses up to 60 SAS or SATA 3.5 inch hard drives in a 4U form factor.
The SV4060j is an enterprise class JBOD with single or hot swappable dual controllers for redundant failover. The ability to hot swap components also extends to the power supplies, cooling modules and HDDs, which are designed to be replaced without the need to power down the system. Thanks to the cooling system and large speed-controlled fans, the 60 HDDs are kept at an optimum temperature to ensure long life and continuous data availability.
Niall Smith, UIT’s Sales Director in EMEA said:" The UIT SV4060j packs a punch in terms of form factor and capacity. 60 hard drives in a 4U enclosure equates to 30 TB per U. This signifies a turning point in the way we size our racks and the floor space required to accommodate them."
The SV4060j is compatible with the entire range of UIT storage products and complements an already line-up including IP-SAN, FC-SAN and NAS to bring a solution to the demands on space and energy within data centre.
Niall added:" There has been lots of hype about green storage, but this is one product that really merits the title. Compared to using standard 3U 16 bay JBODs, an installation of 120 hard drives using 2 x SV4060j’s would reduce power consumption by approximately 37% and take up 62% less rack space. If you add to that the costs and CO² emmissions saved because of the reduced cooling requirements, you start to appreciate the ROI straight away."
UIT will be displaying the SV4060j during CeBIT 2011 in Hannover from the 1st to the 5th March within the Enterprise Storage Solutions Pavilion.
