RELDATA Inc. announced that multiple education institutions have deployed RELDATA’s Unified Storage System to support their rapidly growing IT storage environments. Universities and school districts such as the University of Cambridge, Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences, and Castro Valley Unified School District, are turning to RELDATA as their provider of choice, offering a solution that allows them to cost-effectively scale their infrastructures as their storage requirements expand.

RELDATA will showcased its unified storage solutions at FETC 2011, a conference bringing together education leaders and technology experts, January 31-February 3, 2011 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Like many mid-size companies, educational organizations face the real challenge of how to build out and manage their storage environments in an efficient, economical manner. Built from the ground up, the RELDATA Unified Storage platform is based on an open, software-centric architecture that delivers performance for storage consolidation within complex multi-vendor and virtualized server environments. RELDATA virtualizes existing third party storage to help educational institutions with budgetary constraints cost-effectively expand their infrastructure and capabilities. RELDATA’s platform leverages the iSCSI fabric to manage block and file environments more cost-effectively than with Fibre Channel (FC) alternatives. It provides educational campuses with benefits compared to alternative FC networks including ease of implementation and simplified storage management that results in substantial cost savings.

Case Studies

  • The University of Cambridge, one of the world’s oldest universities and leading academic centers, selected RELDATA to support the growing storage environment of its Geography Department. The department expects its storage requirements to more than double, from 30 terabytes to 64 terabytes, over the next three years. Cambridge has deployed RELDATA’s unified storage solution to ensure future scalability as well as flexible storage provisioning for its faculty, students and staff who have different computing software requirements.
  • Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences (KGI), a member of The Claremont Colleges in Claremont, CA, selected RELDATA to help improve campus-wide access to data and user productivity. KGI deployed the RELDATA 9240i unified storage system to manage both its block and file storage to transition from an older NAS system to an iSCSI SAN. The RELDATA solution also allowed KGI to implement a cost-effective scalability strategy, as well as implement disaster recovery policies to quickly restore data and applications in emergency situations such as earthquakes.
  • The Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) chose RELDATA to support its expanding IT infrastructure, new technology initiatives, and storage environment that is expected to increase in future years. RELDATA’s unified storage system is providing the district a flexible, easy-to-manage, and reliable solution that offers a faster, more reliable disaster recovery solution than its previous tape backup system.

"Educational institutions are discovering that RELDATA’s Unified Storage solution delivers the capability to cost-effectively grow their storage capacity, reduce administration overhead and seamlessly integrate with their existing third party solutions," said Victor Walker, CEO, RELDATA. "We are pleased to be the unified storage solution of choice for our education customers, enabling them to achieve high availability, data protection and ease of management in a single, flexible unified solution that significantly reduces their overall management and infrastructure costs."
