It’s the 43nd annual show produced by the Consumer Electronics Association, the first one being launched in June 1967 in New York City gathering 200 exhibitors and 17,500 attendees.

Last year in Las Vegas, the figures were 126,641 visitors (+12%), including 24,364 from 136 non U.S. countries, and 2,500 exhibitors. The peak was over 140,000 attendees in 2007 and 2008. For 2011, the official number have not been published but he number of exhibitors looks to be holding steady at around 2,700 with 1,200 outside U.S. (+25%) and 140,000 attendees including including 30,000 international visitors from 130 countries.

CES is North America’s largest trade show of any kind but smaller than the biggest IT event in the world, CeBIT, in Hanover, Germany, that continues to shrink but registered 4,157 exhibitors and 334,000 visitors in March 2010.

The two events are also the biggest one in term of storage exhibitors. They have relatively recently adopted the U.S. event as CE became a big market for them. Furthermore, Tom Coughlin has the good idea to organize its Storage Visions event in Las Vegas two days before the CES.

We formerly published 18 news concerning new products at CES 2011 – to get all of them, select "CES 2011" in Themes & Channels on the top left of this page. We have currently 32 more press releases than you can read in two parts, today and tomorrow.

It’s about all on consumer products, mainly external HDDs, AV and set-top box products, home NAS, flash devices, Blu-ray disc drives, connectors, with the main trends being the increased capacity of all the storage devices, cloud storage, the adding of USB 3.0 and DLNA, new interfaces and connectors.

CES will return to Las Vegas next January 10-13, 2012.
