Pandora has deployed over 250 terabytes of storage to hold its vast music collection. Pandora has more than 75 million registered users in the United States and the company’s personalized radio stations that play on more than 200 devices, including PCs, smartphones, the iPad and in-home connected devices such as televisions, Blu-Ray players, table-top radios and digital media players.

Pandora is everywhere consumers are, resulting in storage requirements that are both unique and multi-faceted. For every song in the Pandora collection, multiple file types are required to support the numerous device options.

"Gluster provides us with a storage solution that scales in tandem with our growth," said Steve Ginsberg, Vice President of Technical Operations at Pandora, "Gluster’s open source architecture offers a compelling cost advantage over other storage solutions, enabling Pandora to run on commodity hardware, a key benefit to us."

Pandora systems administrators were able to implement Gluster and its user interface that enables any administrator with strong UNIX skills to deploy and manage solutions on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, once Gluster was configured, Pandora found the process to be repeatable and require only one primary system administrator to manage the technology.

"Pandora presents a unique web-scale challenge with the explosion of digital content. Many companies across all industries are facing similar challenges, as unstructured data is growing faster than ever before," said Ben Golub CEO of Gluster. "Our goal is to provide a product that is easy to use, whether you have just a few terabytes, or the most demanding scalability requirements, and Pandora demonstrates the ability of our technology achieve this."
