SmartPick Backup With Japan Venture Partners

To market SmartFiler backup appliances in Asia

SmartPick Backup, a San Jose, CA-based provider of data backup appliances and services, announced that SmartFiler Backup Appliances, will now be available in Japan and the far-east.

SmartPick Backup is partnering with Japan Venture Partners to market SmartFiler Backup Appliances in Japan, Singapore, China and other far-east countries. Japan Venture Partners specializes in developing and managing channel partners across Southeast Asia, North Asia, Japan, and Oceania for leading high-growth US and European technology vendors.

The SmartFiler Backup Appliance solution requires no monthly service charges and do not require a third party service provider. Customers buy two SmartFilers, pair them together, one located onsite and the other located offsite, and seamlessly backup their mission critical data on both SmartFilers. This enables small and medium businesses to backup to their own private cloud and avoid monthly service charges.  The SmartFiler appliances are available with storage capacity of 500GB to 12TB.

"Using SmartFiler Backup Appliances customers pay only $2900 to backup 1TB of data, onsite and offsite, compared to over $15000 in a two-year period using the Barracuda Backup or Sonicwall CDP appliance solutions", says Swami Nathan, President of SmartPick Backup.

Apart from the cost, backing up huge amounts of data is often impractical for many SMBs. Even with a T1 connection upload speed of 1.5Mbps, it will take over 30 days to backup 500GB to a cloud based backup service. But with the SmartFiler solution customers can backup or restore the same 500GB in less than 3 hours. SmartFiler appliances use advanced data deduplication techniques to minimize storage needs and block-level incremental backups to minimize the network bandwidth needed for backup.

The recently released Version 2 of the SmartFiler Appliances enable automatic offsite data backup of Exchange Server, SQL and other databases, expanding the solution to wider market. Version 2 integrates SmartFiler Appliances with Symantec’s Backup Exec System Recovery product to enable offsite data backup of Exchange data without tapes and enables bare metal recovery.

"We are seeing very good interest from SMB channels across the region for the SmartFiler Backup Appliance solution, as it fits a market need not currently met by the traditional backup and recovery software, tape, or disk vendors", says Roger Brook, partner, Japan Venture Partners.
