Hitachi Reacts to Tom Coughlin
Not true: "For true PC with 3TB, only maximum of 4 disks can be used".
By Jean Jacques Maleval | December 2, 2010 at 3:07 pmWe got an email from Nigel Edwards, senior director client relationships EMEA at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Europe Ltd, following the yesterday’s article from Tom Coughlin We May See 4TB or Larger External HDDs by 2011:
"Reading this article today I do not believe all the information is accurate. Hitachi do regularly ship 5 disk 3.5" HDDs in the standard desktop format and have done so for years. This is also true of our current 3TB drive which uses 5 platters. I have not seen the WD or Seagate 5 platter drives that Tom Coughlin is referring to but Hitachi’s 5 platter products are NOT too thick for internal computer applications. So his statement "For a true desktop computer with 3 TB storage capacity only a maximum of 4 disks can be used" is not correct."
