IBM ProtecTIER De-Dupe Support of Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage API

System Storage ProtecTIER Enterprise Edition and ProtecTIER Appliance Edition V2.5 software from IBM Corp. have been enhanced to support the Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage API.

The OpenStorage interface is an application programming interface (API) which provides tighter integration between the ProtecTIER system and NetBackup software. Through this API, increased control of ProtecTIER deduplication systems is provided to NetBackup systems. The OpenStorage interface delivers better management of backup images from NetBackup systems, and more control over the replication of backup images to multiple ProtecTIER systems.

Key prerequisites

  • Only backup data passed to ProtecTIER from NetBackup is eligible to utilize the optional OpenStorage interface.
