Record of 68 Boothes at SNW Europe Starting Tomorrow

Tomorrow morning SNW Europe, Virtualization World and Datacenter Technologies will kick off a conference programme packed with 130 sessions given by industry analysts, end users, sponsoring vendors and members of SNIA and SNIA Europe.

Despite the uncertain identity and success of other IT events, Angel Business Communications, the organisers behind the three Frankfurt conferences, have increased the size and scope of what was initially an appointment focussed on the data storage industry to incorporate technologies including cloud computing, virtualisation and networking.

The organisers also unveiled some findings from a survey of European end users carried out earlier on this month to understand what the most main issues, priorities and trends in the industry are:

Budgets:

55% of surveyed end users say that 2011 storage budgets will remain the same or increase; only 15% believe they will decrease

Top issues and priorities:

Management complexity remains the biggest headache in the datacentre for 53% of respondents
The main datacentre projects and investments in the next 12 months are storage and data management and server virtualisation, followed by infrastructure consolidation and storage virtualisatio

All of these issues were rated
as either ‘quite important’ or ‘very important’:

Limiting storage acquisition costs (purchase of hardware, software, cloud, etc.)
Limiting storage maintenance costs (service contracts, upgrades, etc.)
Limiting storage administration costs (staff, training, etc.)
Making the storage strategy compliant to company and other rules and legislation

Cloud:

45% of respondents say security is still the main obstacle to adoption
79% are not considering moving their storage infrastructure to the cloud yet; however 2% already have and 11% are planning the move for next year

Virtualisation:

At least 40% of production servers will be virtualised by the end of 2010 for 71% of end users
22% of respondent will have 40% or more of their desktops virtualised by the end of 2010
39% will have at least 40% of their production storage environment virtualised by the end of 2010
