This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 8, 2010 at 3:27 pmAcronis announced the general availability of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Online (ABR 10 Online). Launched last month at VMWorld, ABR 10 Online is an online backup and recovery solution that offers the advantages of an offsite data center without a substantial upfront investment.
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Online answers the need for cost-effective online data storage for backup and recovery. The solution is designed for SMBs who typically backup to tape or disk and store those backups offsite or who do not have an offsite data protection strategy. With the service, IT administrators can recover files, folders or even complete images of systems.
Existing solutions for onsite local backup like Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 provide the benefits of backups and recoveries in the event of infrastructure failure or local occurrences such as accidently deleted files or virus attack. The new Acronis solution enables organizations to recover quickly and completely from a secure cloud computing environment in the wake of a full-scale outage, without requiring a dedicated offsite storage facility and its associated costs.
The service includes support for mixed virtual and physical computing environments found in many of today’s businesses. One of the first data protection solutions to offer online agent-less backup for virtual machines, Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Online eliminates agents, which reduces repetitive administration tasks and helps to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).
Additionally, ABR 10 Online:
- Has minimal impact on management overhead, since the same Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 management console allows for control of both online and local backups – for both physical and virtual machines.
- Recovers individual files or whole system images so organizations have the disaster recovery flexibility they need.
- Provides flexible retention periods depending on customer’s backup and archiving policies.
- Protects backup data through AES-256 data encryption and user authentication for complete security.
- Offers an initial seeding option for customers with large amounts of data, where the backup is placed on a hard drive and sent to Acronis’ data center for uploading. Similarly, in the event of a large server outage, Acronis will load a server’s backups onto an external hard drive and ship it to the customer as part of its Large Scale Recovery option.
"With its latest announcement Acronis has taken a clear initiative in the SMB market by providing enterprise-class cloud based backup and recovery at an affordable price point for small to medium sized businesses. This will accelerate the evolution of cloud based backup and recovery, and the extra protection it offers, into a mainstream technique," says Carla Arend, Program Manager, European Infrastructure Software at IDC.
"Backup and recovery pivots on trust and reliability. These key values become even more important when businesses place essential data in the cloud," explains Jason Donahue, CEO at Acronis. "This product has been developed solely by Acronis and is a natural extension to our on-premise solution. With almost a decade of experience in providing organically grown DR solutions to SMBs, and more than five million installations worldwide, Acronis is the disaster recovery provider of choice for small- and medium-size businesses."
