Sans Digital Reveals 6Gb SAS Expander JBOD Rackmounts

Sans Digital announced a line of 6Gbps SAS expander JBOD rackmounts, EliteSTOR ES208X6+B (2U 8-bay), ES316X6+B (3U 16-bay) and ES424X6+B (4U 24-bay), which doubles the bandwidth in comparison to the existing 3G models.

Connecting to a 6G RAID controller with one cable, all three models provide up to 48TB of storage capacity with over 1500MB/s read and 1000 MB/s write speeds. In addition to the increase in performance, the built-in hardware status monitoring along with support of up to 120 hard drives expansion capability provide easy and economical storage expansion solutions for servers and other performance-demanding applications.

The 6G technology was developed to address the increasing demand for greater data transfer speed in order to cope with new IO performance requirements needed for information technology and video editing applications. Current 3Gbps performance on the SAS expander is limited to 1200MB/s in bandwidth and generates about 700MB/s under RAID 6. By using the 6G technology, including 6G SAS and SATA drives, as well as 6G RAID controllers and host adapters (such as LSI 9280-8E, ATTO R60 and Areca ARC-1880X), EliteSTOR 6G SAS expander storages are capable of reaching over 1500MB/s under RAID applications.

In addition to the performance, all three models allow users to daisy-chain multiple units, supporting up to a maximum of 122 hard drives using a single RAID HBA. Both SATA or SAS hard drives are supported and an abundant array of features are included such as redundant power supply modules (optional for ES208X6+B), fan and power supply failure alert with mute function, and SGPIO support that enables the HBA to access real-time system and hard drive information. All Sans Digital EliteSTOR 6G SAS expansion models are backward compatible with 3G RAID controllers, allowing immediate deployment and later upgrades. The ES208X6+B, ES316X6+B and ES424X6+B are fast, reliable, affordable and simple to use, providing maximum return on investment for stringent IT budgets.
