Infortrend ESVA E10: Mid-Range Array Supporting IP SAN

16 HDDs, four 1GbE iSCSI ports

Infortrend Technology Inc. announced the addition of the ESVA E10 mid-range storage array to its ESVA (Enterprise Scalable Virtualised Architecture) iSCSI-host series.

The most affordable model in this family, the new ESVA E10 delivers data service features such as storage virtualisation, distributed load-balancing, thin provisioning and data protection functions. The ESVA E10 helps users maximise return on investment in their IP SAN while minimising cost.

The ESVA E10 comes with sixteen internal drives and two 1GbE iSCSI ports on each controller. Like all other ESVA models, the E10 is based on a scalable virtualised architecture that allows IT administrators to grow the system in line with their needs. To achieve enhanced performance and expanded capacity and hence meet the required service levels for applications, users can cluster up to four E10 systems in a storage pool. Scaling is not disruptive to eliminate downtime. For optimised application productivity, workloads are equally distributed among all of the storage systems in the pool. The ESVA E10’s built-in thin provisioning capability further ensures maximum utilisation of the pooled capacity. Large, under-utilised data volumes no longer exist, as capacity is dynamically allocated to applications when read operations occur.

To protect data from unplanned downtime, the ESVA E10 also includes data protection features such as snapshot, volume copy and remote replication. Based on data value and usage, users can choose to create data copies within or across storage pool(s) and can create up to 256 snapshot copies for each data volume. The space-efficient differential copies provide granular recovery points based on which IT administrators can restore files or rollback data. To support disaster recovery, users can also create full copies of production data at remote sites. The disk-based copies of full integrity can be immediately leveraged to restart service after disasters hit the primary site.

According to James Hsieh, vice president of global marketing at Infortrend, "The market for IP SANs is rapidly growing, and has become more and more prevalent in storage environments for both SMBs and enterprises. One of the main attractions of an IP SAN is its low cost of ownership and deployment, and Infortrend’s new ESVA E10 further enhances this cost advantage."
