Stampede Awarded Patent for AutoZip for Web Applications

Stampede Technologies, Inc., provider of WAN optimization and acceleration solutions for Satellite and terrestrial-based networks, has been issued U.S. Patent 7,743,102 for its AutoZip client/server compression solution for zipping and unzipping Web-based file attachments.

Today’s volume of email attachments are putting enormous strains on server storage and network bandwidth for enterprises and network server providers. Stampede’s AutoZip significantly reduces disk storage requirements on servers, while maximizing bandwidth utilization. AutoZip is a client/server software feature that comes with FX Series appliances to dynamically and transparently convert file attachments into industry standard .zip files as they are added to Web applications such as Outlook Web Access, SharePoint portals, Domino Web Access, etc.

AutoZip comes with an add-in utility that automatically converts existing attachments, working behind the scenes to automatically Zip and unZip file attachments to eliminate the need for end-users to initiate the process. When the attachments are viewed, they appear as normal files, and when the end-user clicks on them they go directly into the handler that was associated with the ‘unzipped’ document, rather than an intermediate zip viewer.

AutoZip compression can achieve over 85% reduction, saving both disk space and network bandwidth by removing excess data from file attachments. This allows network administrators to recapture valuable disk space and avoid costly upgrades. In addition, AutoZip helps in the movement of data from location to another by reducing the amount of data that has to be transferred.
