Barracuda: “We Are Not in Acquisition Negotiations With SonicWALL”
Responding to industry speculation
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 28, 2010 at 2:46 pmBarracuda Networks Inc., provider of security, storage and networking solutions, issued a statement regarding the industry speculation that the company is involved in acquisition discussions with SonicWALL, Inc.
"The recent speculation that Barracuda Networks is involved in negotiations with SonicWALL is unfounded," said Dean Drako, president and CEO of Barracuda Networks. "We have completed a number of successful acquisitions, including a public company, so it is not surprising that some in the industry are speculating we are engaged in these discussions; however, we are not having any such discussions. Barracuda Networks is focused on the sales and marketing execution for the products that we have acquired, in particular the Barracuda NG Firewall which delivers the next generation of firewall technology."
Barracuda Networks has made several acquisitions in the security space, most recently with the acquisitions of phion AG, a leading vendor in the next generation firewall space based in Austria, and Purewire, an emerging Web Security-as-a-Service vendor based in Atlanta. In 2007, Barracuda Networks acquired NetContinuum, a leader in the Web Application Firewall market. These three acquisitions complement the company’s own security solution suite – including the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall, Barracuda Web Filter and Barracuda IM Firewall. Three additional acquisitions were made in 2008 outside the security space.

The rumor followed a SEC filing where SoniWALL said it has received an unsolicited acquisition offer from a private company it did not identify.
