Soonr Secures $4.5 Million in Series D funding
A start-up in cloud backup protection with CDP and synchronization

The new funding will be used to grow sales, marketing and partnership efforts and to accelerate the company’s continued expansion into new markets.

Soonr addresses the growing need to protect vital business data with cloud-based backup and to deliver productivity through cloud-based collaboration and mobile access.
According to AMI-Partners, the U.S. market for small business online storage/backup is expected to grow from $138 million to $295 million by 2013, while the smart phone device and data services market will double from $2.5 billion to $5 billion during the same time frame.

The Soonr service works across worldwide carrier networks and major handset operating systems including iPhone, Android and Blackberry smart phones, and provides capabilities for the business user who needs to stay protected and productive at all times. The service is sold directly as well as through partnerships with resellers, service providers and OEMs.

Based in Campbell, CA and Lyngby, Denmark Soonr was founded in 2005 by
Martin Frid-Nielsen, chairman and CEO, Steven Boye, CTO, Lars Gunnersen,
VP of engineering, and Song Huang, chief evangelist. The first three
ones came from Merant, acquired by Serena for about $400 million in
2004, and NetObjects.
Total invested into the start-up is now at $23 million following $6 million
for the first round in 2006, $9.5 million and $3 million in 2009 in
rounds B and C.
Soonr offered a cloud service delivery model to provide continuous
protection and synchronization of critical files with CDP like Apple's
Time machine for the paid versions.
For protection, the connection with a
web browser employs 256-bit SSL encryption and the desktop software a 168-bit SSL when communication with the Soonr service.
It is
available from any device using a Web browser and there is also an
iPhone app.
It supports multiple file types including Office and videos.
There are three versions of the online backup service:
- Soonr Lite: free, 2Gb of backup quota for 2 users and 3 projects
- Soonr Premium: 10GB at $7.95 per month for 3 users and unlimited projects, cloud drive, file versioning and online disk drive
- Soonr Pro: 40GB at $19.95 per month for 5 users and unlimited projects, cloud drive, file versioning, online disk drive and custom branding
