Hie Electronics TeraStack Installed for Video Storage Management

The TeraStack Solution from Hie Electronics, Inc. now provides green data storage for the public security video storage management system at the multi-purpose arena complex, Spodek auditorium. The Spodek installation marks the TeraStack Solution’s entry into the European market.

Spodek auditorium is a multi-purpose arena complex venue, located in Katowice, Poland. Spodek, or saucer, includes a main dome, gym, ice rink, hotel and three large car parking areas. It is the largest indoor venue of its kind in Poland and hosts concerts, cultural, sports and business events.

The TeraStack Solution is part of a system provided by Noma2 of Poland which designs, installs and integrates security systems for use by commercial, governmental and public agencies.

Polish law requires video from public facilities be stored for twelve months for security purposes. At the Katowice arena, 160 cameras record 25 frames per second plus audio, capturing up to 345 million frames of video surveillance data per day.

"The TeraStack Solution offers the ability to capture and retain millions of frames of high resolution data in an energy efficient manner," says Patrick Humm.

According to Noma2, the compact TeraStack Solution offers quicker image and video retrieval for pre-recorded video data. Using Blu-ray media and optical engineering, the TeraStack Solution manages more information, stores it longer and consumes less power than other storage products.  

The TeraStack Solution is about the size of a two-drawer file cabinet and plugs into a wall outlet using 600 watts of power. “Our green product is a result of good engineering,” says Humm. The TeraStack Solution securely processes, stores and manages 78TB of online and nearline data with unlimited, compact offline storage and is energy efficient.
