Qnap 8-Drive Rack-Mounted NAS/iSCSI SAN
2 GbE ports, RAID-6, compatible with vSphere4
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 4, 2010 at 3:17 pmQNAP Systems, Inc. announced the TS-859U-RP Business Series Turbo NAS server enclosure, an affordable 2U rack-mounted unit with 8 hot-swappable 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch hard disk drives and a redundant power-supply for maximum up-time in corporate and entry-level enterprise datacenters with performance, availability and reliability.
The TS-859U-RP features a dual-core Intel Atom D510 1.66GHz CPU and 1GB DDRII RAM, delivering fast performance coupled with low power consumption that translates into lower total cost of ownership without sacrificing performance.
The TS-859U-RP contains two power units. Should one power supply fail, the other will continue to supply the power for the entire system and alert the administrator via email or SMS to the failure.
The TS-859U-RP is chock full of advanced networking features including dual Gigabit LAN ports with 7 bonding modes, comprising failover (if one network port fails, the other LAN port is still active), load-balancing (aggregates the network load to boost transfer speed), multiple-IP settings. The fail-safe dual OS DOM architecture for positive system boot ups, and single, JBOD, RAID 0/1/5/6/5+ hot spare/6+ hot spare with online RAID capacity expansion and online RAID level migration, and RAID recovery. The TS-859U-RP also features iSCSI for business, which allows easy network storage capacity expansion by simply attaching other QNAP Turbo NAS units to the network and establishing virtual volumes, a feature not offered by other competitors currently in this product segment.
The TS-859U-RP has been certified as fully compatible with VMware’s vSphere4 (ESX 4.0) virtualization platform, ideal for workgroup or company-wide file sharing, storage, and advanced server applications. VMware’s vSphere is the industry’s premier cloud operating system that offers a way to reduce IT costs and increase network responsiveness through the use of virtual machines. Networked storage is an essential component of an effective cloud computing infrastructure. Businesses of all sizes are able to enjoy the interoperability between VMware virtual machines and QNAP high performance networked storage to take full advantage of VMware cloud computing environments. SPC-3 Persistent Reservation for clustering in VMware and also Hyper-V clusters in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 are supported, as is thin-provisioning, MPIO, and MC/S.
"Corporate & Enterprise IT managers depend on high performance, highly reliable networked storage to meet the insatiable storage needs of today’s companies," said Laurent Cheng, Product Manager of QNAP Systems, Inc. "The TS-859U-RP is an ideal choice for these environments as it offers up to 16TB of online, networked storage with levels of performance and reliability demanded by network users with business-ready features that administrators can use to deploy network-wide backups, enable file sharing inside & outside the company, share printers, host websites, and much more," Mr. Cheng added.
Range of business features included in the TS-859U-RP, including file sharing in mixed Windows/Mac/Linux/UNIX networks, advanced power management with scheduled power on/off & wake on LAN access, support for Microsoft Active Directory (AD), secure AES 256-bit volume-based encryption, HDD S.M.A.R.T., which notifies the administrator via email or SMS when a drive is failing or has failed, and the most comprehensive log system of any NAS currently on the market. The TS-859U-RP’s functionality can be extended with QPKG software plug-ins, with 15 currently available for telephony, Java, Joomla!, WordPress, and other applications.
The TS-859U-RP ships with QNAP’s Version 3.2 of its NAS management software, which adds new DFS support (Shared Folder Aggregation), import of user-list, next-generation Internet Protocol IPv6 and IPv4 dual stack. QNAP’s Web File Manager 2 features an entirely redesigned user interface and functionality for improved file sharing and management. WebDAV is also available for users to collaboratively share, access, and edit files over HTTP and HTTPS.
