actidata to Distribute HH and FH LTO-5 Drives

From €1,760 for the drive and €83 for the media

actidata GmbH is expanding its range of LTO products to include the LTO 5 technology, in order to offer its customers a higher level of both data protection and cost-effectiveness. Half height and full height tape drives and media are now available via actidata’s sales partners.

Frank Roszyk, Managing Director of actidata GmbH, comments this step: “The new LTO 5 technology nearly doubles the capacity in comparison to LTO 4. For users dealing with a large quantity of media which has to be stored and archived over long periods of time this technology offers excellent price/performance ratio especially due to its low power consumption. The LTO Consortium recently presented its roadmap which shows how LTO will develop in the next few years with up to 12.8 terabyte on one medium. Consequently LTO continues to offer users a high level of investment protection.“

actidata will be offering the actiTape LTO 5 tape drives in half height and full height form factor. Both come with AES 256-bit hardware data encryption and boast nearly double the capacity of LTO 4 technology with 3 TB at 2:1 data compression and a data transfer rate of 28 MB/s at 2:1 data compression, which translates into a speed of 1 TB per hour. 256MB of read/write cache are provided for half height products, for full height drives 512 MB will be the standard cache. Optimum data throughput and low-wear operation is guaranteed due to the integrated 14 level, automatic speed adjustment function to meet host transfer rate. actidata’s actiTape LTO 5 tape drives will house either a SAS 6 Gb/s or a FC 8 Gb/s dual port interface. To comply with legal requirements, the tape drive will furthermore be equipped with WORM functionality to ensure that no business-critical data is overwritten.

Backward compatibility to LTO 4 media (read and write) and to LTO 3 (read) guarantees the smooth introduction of LTO 5 into any existing LTO storage environment. Thanks to the Power Save Mode, the actiTape LTO 5 saves energy costs consuming just 5 watt in standby mode.

The new technology will be available in actidata’s tape automation systems (actiLib LTO) in the second half of Q2. LTO 5 will boost the available capacity to up to 288 Terabyte (8U 96 slot library). actidata LTO 5 tape drives will have 3 year warranty and be part of actidata’s Fast Exchange Service.

Net dealer prices will range from 1,760 euros for an actiTape tape drive and 83 euros for the LTO 5 media.
