IBM XIV Supporting 2TB HDDs

For machine types 2810 and 2812

New 2 TB module features are now available for factory shipment on the IBM XIV Storage System from IBM Corp.

You cannot mix 1 TB HDD modules and 2 TB HDD modules in a single XIV Storage System frame.

All features and functions in this announcement are supported on the IBM XIV Storage System Model A14 with IBM XIV Storage System Software V10.2.1, or later, installed.

New XIV data and interface modules are available on the IBM XIV Storage System.

These modules can now be populated with 2 TB SATA HDDs. An XIV Storage System that is fully populated with these drives will have 161 TB of usable capacity available. Partially populated configurations are also available in 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 module increments.

1 TB modules will continue to be available in fully populated and partially populated configurations. You cannot finish populating a partially populated 1 TB module machine with new 2 TB modules. Partially populated 1 TB module machines must continue to be populated with 1 TB modules. Similarly, partially populated machines that ship from the factory with 2 TB modules must continue to be populated with 2 TB modules in the field.
